French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe on June 12 announced a 27 billion euro (roughly $30 billion) tax cut over the next five years, a reduction of unemployment benefits for the country's top earners and incentives for companies to phase out short-term contracts, among other measures, France 24 reported June 12.

The prime minister's speech promised tax cuts on the one hand (such as removing the country's housing tax), while pledging measures intended to boost business productivity on the other (such as reducing unemployment benefits to encourage job seeking). Philippe also gave more detail about the government's potentially contentious pension reform, noting it will provide incentives for citizens to work beyond the legal retirement age of 62 without actually changing the law itself.

Hey, look, Macron (the most pro-market French President in decades) has survived.

Still there, battling with the whore.

...he's even assisting the INSOC people by insisting on a shorter extension for them to leave.

...off you go true Englanders, to those sunny uplands: off you go.

...thank pere Macron on your way out.

    Week 50. Published October 27th, 2019 - 08:19 GMT

    https://www.albawaba.com/news/yellow...t-week-1317301

The long-running protest appears to be justified by the continued and extreme unpopularity of President Emmanuel Macron, who has reached the halfway point in his five-year term.
A new poll showed that a whopping 65% of France disapproves of his tenure, giving him even less domestic approval than controversial US President Donald Trump.
A major difference between the two countries is that France’s mainstream media has largely defended their unpopular president, and chosen to demonize the anti-government sentiment expressed nationwide every Saturday for nearly a year.

We're being governed ruled by a geriatric Alzheimer patient/puppet whose strings are being pulled by an elitist oligarchy who believe they can manage the world... imagine the utter maniacal, sociopathic hubris!

Hopefully that indicates that the French are rejecting their media.

Don't know if that's the case but I would think if this is true that they would protest against them too???

    Maybe.
Or maybe they will just start to reject everything their media tells them in addition to Macron.

It's France we are talking about so I don't hold out much hope but I never expected the Yellow Vests either.

The opposition to Macron consists of (seriously, no hyperbole) bolshevik labor unions and the like.

Do you anti-EU people actually hate the EU so much that you're cheering on French communists?

Did you love the first French revolution so much that you'd like another?

There are a lot of French people, upper or upper-middle class people, people in the army, in the church, who have never forgotten or forgiven the first revolution (or any of the many which followed), who hate passionately the whore (i.e. the republic). There are even provincials who feel this way, the same as the peasants who fought the war in the Vendee. Macron represents the most radically classically liberal government which can exist while remaining democratic. If you value that kind of government, and don't want to have Pinochet in Paris, then Macron is the man. It's Macron, Pinochet, or Lenin. Take your pick.

There are people to the right of Macron in opposition to him too.
And rather than see the EU become a threat to the whole world like the USSR I'd much prefer another French revolution.

I'll take Pinochet if those are the only options.
And he did hold elections when it was safe and accepted the outcome.

    So would I.

But, assuming we're going to maintain this whole election clown-show, Macron is the man.

...and, should said clown-show break down, Macron might also be the man in that situation.

The personal stupidity of our own politicians, on this side of the water, has prejudiced us.

Macron is quite capable of actually governing a state; so are many other European politicians.

We, on the other hand, are led by a television character.

    So...

Not wearing yellow vests, but railway workers, teachers and hospital staff held one of the biggest public sector strikes in decades against Emmanuel Macron’s plans to overhaul the pension system, with more than 800,000 people in protest marches in cities across France. This included a nationwide transport strike across France.
The protesters complain that the new pension plans would force millions of people to work longer or receive lower payments.

In Paris, cops fired teargas at black-clad protesters. Some protesters set fire to a storage trailer, smashed windows and a bus shelter, and overturned cars. Riot police in Nantes fired teargas at masked protesters, who threw projectiles at them.
More than 6,000 riot police lined the demonstration route from Paris Gare du Nord to the east of the city.
By late afternoon there had been more than 70 arrests and 9,000 searches.

    Isabelle Jarrivet said:
The gilets jaunes protests got people thinking and talking more about politics and people determined not to let things pass. You can feel a defiant mood in the air.
