Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown (and later Prime Minister) sold off more than half the UK gold reserves between 1999 and 2002. That significantly reduced their holdings (their gold reserves currently rank #17). That was also about the bottom of the price of gold over the last 40 years (publicly announcing the huge sale ahead of time and dropping a large amount all at once also helped depress the price of gold- it was sold at $275 an ounce).

None of the reported figures of gold holdings can be trusted anywhere. Seems everyone is keeping the real numbers under wraps until it's time to declare gold as a monetary backing again.

So what are the real figures? Are you in on the "secret"? Like a global currency, there is also no rush to back currency with gold today.

The secret? Maybe something like that. I don't know the real figures but I know that no way can any banker supplied figures be trusted. Lying is part of the business plan.

Ah the usual "they must be fake but I have no idea what the real numbers might be."

Eventually all the lies over the years add up to not trusting anything they say. Kinda like reading your posts.
