Bill Gates laid out a 3-step process the U.S. government must take to help curb the COVID-19 outbreak that could kill between 100,000 and 240,000 Americans, based on government estimates shared Tuesday.

The Microsoft co-founder and global health expert published his proposed plan in a Washington Post column Tuesday afternoon. Gates has been increasingly outspoken in recent days about the need to take more aggressive action in the fight against the novel coronavirus.

Strange that his suggestion of a shutdown only comes after the bug has spread globally. I would have thought that his event 201 would have given him insight into the critical nature of early action and isolation. Particularly of hotspots.

While normally I'd say you raise a fair point, I do have to disagree on your Gates perspective.

In this case Gates has spent a considerable amount of time focusing on global healthcare. Decades of spending huge chunks of money in very precise ways based on personal research and involvement actually does make him an expert. He isn't just cutting checks and hosting galas to bask in the glory of giving, he's actively involved in how and why money should go to something. I'd bet he's easily surpassed the 10,000 hours on the subject.

With that said what he suggests sets a dangerous precedent, we're already giving the government carte blanche on spending and trampling of rights. The never let a crisis go to waste saying is showing why that is actually a saying. Also Multi billionaires and politicians all have agendas that have been shown to not be in the best interest of the average person. Gates weighing in as an expert is fine but I am not sure the consequences of following them is a good thing. Thinking the current batch of idiots in Washington can handle a national crisis is scary.

Honestly, certain professions do require higher education and certifications/licensing to 'practice' or perform--as they should. Bill Gates has no business telling the people that if the government shuts down, they will have a cure for the virus within 30-days.

Bill Gates is in a position to greatly profit on things such as this, resulting in ethical concerns and conflicts of interest.

While Gates may hold vast knowledge on the inner working of certain things, possess inside connections (as a long-vetted political insider), and the like. He lacks any appreciation or consideration to the whole picture, his mentality is one that "the end always justifies the means" and progressivism is ultimate. He holds no appreciation for the empirical social-contact's of nations-states, the "prime-directive," or for individualism.
