The basic gist (from my understanding) is that the 'Israel' that we know
    is an abomination (to God).
The British (Balfour Declaration) 'gathered them' into the 'Land'.. not God.
They're waiting for the 'real' re-gathering.

I guess I can take this one..
In the Hebrew Torah (Old Testament) there is no 'word' for God... on purpose, out of respect/honor.
What is used (for God) in the Torah is unpronounceable.
(similar to 'thou shall make no graven image (of God).. the same idea... no pictures/no statues/no 'word'.. nothing 'man made'
which they see as a defilement and disobedience to scripture.
So... the missing 'o' in God is a reflection of that sentiment/belief. (also there are no vowels in Hebrew.)

As Christians we believe that the messiah came to Earth (1st coming)..
    but
we also read/believe that he is coming again (2nd coming). Basic stuff.

In between the 1st and 2nd coming
we read/believe there is going to rise up THE 'false' messiah (the Anti-Christ)..
(in fact, scripture states that there have been 'many' false messiahs... i.e. trickery etc.)

    So
the concept that there may be a 'false re-gathering' before the 'real' re-gathering
is not that much of a stretch to believe and doesn't have to challenge your 'faith' in Christ at all.

When you simply look at the re-gathering scriptures and
frame a mental 'picture' of what it will really look like (when God does it)
there are missing elements in the society/state that claims to be 'Israel' that we see today.
Like the rampant secularism and non-belief.
When HE gathers them, they will reflect HIM to the heathen.. he changes their HEARTS.
The 'picture' painted by the scriptures seems to describe something we haven't seen yet.

24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

The 'arguments' (in Christianity) will revolve
around whether the 're-gathering' is perceived as a 'process' (going on 70 years now)
    vs. an 'event'/a 'happening'.

One thing we know also, is that once God DOES re-gather them...
(should this one be 'false' as they believe)
then that's it. They will never be 'dispersed' again.
