By the mid 90's when my family got me out of there, it was beyond dangerous. If only I knew then what I know today...

Thing is, the rest of the US seems to be turning into Detroit at varying degrees. Some places are still doing ok, but our entire ship is sinking, not just Detroit...

Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

From what I understand, that was a bad tour back when it was free.

I saw on the teevee that the place is now available for special events and weddings.

When I was in 8th grade, in '85 we took a field trip to Jeff City. We stopped by the Pen for about 30 minutes and a got to look at the outside. Then a male prisoner and some female in uniform who worked there gave us a lecture on why we should behave. From the outside at least, it didn't look like a fun place to hang out.

Has anyone here even been to Detroit?

Did you ever do time at either of the farms?

When I was young, the place looked like they produced a lot of food from what I could see from the road at #2.

    It is abandoned now.

I was never near Church Farm, I could only see what I remember they called #2 along the highway in the river bottoms.

    Here is Church Farm now.

Update: I just looked it up and #2 is really the Renz facility and it housed women when it closed after the flood of '93. The farm looked nice when I was young.

A combination of danger and dirt that lingers in the air in a special aroma to where you can taste it and smell it even if you wish you could not .
