Angry Penn: Hi-Jacked Tea Party Supports Jake Towne's Establishment Opponent?!?

Tea party ties don't bind voters in Lehigh Valley
Candidates linked to the movement were faring poorly in several races
May 19, 2010|By Scott Kraus | OF THE MORNING CALL

Despite the victory of tea party favorite Rand Paul over Republican establishment candidate Trey Greyson in the GOP primary for Kentucky's open Senate seat, congressional candidates with ties to the populist small-government movement appeared to be striking out in the Lehigh Valley region.

Assessing the success of tea party-linked candidates here is difficult. The movement isn't a political party, so there are no official candidates. Complicating matters, a regional Philadelphia-based tea party group endorsed a slate of candidates throughout the state that included many Republican incumbents, including Charlie Dent in the Lehigh Valley's 15th District.

Even within local tea party groups, members differ over whom to support.

Jake is running without a party. The article is just talking about how people in the tea party differ over who to support. Unfortunately a lot of tea partiers still think if there is an R by someone's name they automatically have to support them in the general. Jake will attract quite a bit of the disenchanted republican vote though.

Reminds me of unions - union leadership does things union members may not like. We can't have the tea parties acting like unions!!! I'm glad Jake is running as an Independent - he's not loyal to a political party. He's loyal to his boss, the people.
