Chris McDaniel switches races in Mississippi

Chris McDaniel plans to run for retiring Sen. Thad Cochran’s seat, ending his primary challenge against the state’s other Republican senator, Roger Wicker. “By announcing early, we are asking Mississippi Republicans to unite around my candidacy and avoid another contentious contest among GOP members that would only improve the Democrats’ chances of winning the open seat,” McDaniel said in a statement Wednesday.
His decision spares Wicker a potentially bruising primary. But it opens up a new challenge for Republican officials who don’t like the controversial conservative state senator.

Trump had zero effect on that race, other than to energize the Democrats, but that was a global phenomenon, not something specific to the Alabama Senate race.

Oh Jebus, Matt, get your head out'cher ass, that is exactly my point:

Trump's rallies and stumping did nothing to help the candidate and everything to inflame and energize the opposition to get out there and vote against Moore.

Can anybody list the races, if any, where Trump actively campaigned and held rallies and stump speeched for a candidate that went on to win?

California Republicans Distance Themselves From Trump on Visit

    http://www.breitbart.com/california/...es-from-trump/

    by Adelle Nazarian16 Mar 2018
President Donald Trump’s first visit to California this week as commander-in-chief saw little support from the Golden State’s Republicans.

“The president’s unpopularity is sky high here in California,” Mike Madrid, a political consultant with GrassrootsLab, told Southern California Public Radio. “Most Republicans, with few exceptions, are mostly keeping their distance trying to disassociate themselves with the president. Which is not uncommon with President in power during midterm elections … this however seems to be a little bit more impactful.”

Mississippi Republican U.S. Senate candidate Chris McDaniel has pulled to within five points of his Republican opponent Cindy Hyde-Smith and six points of Democrat leader Mike Espy in the latest NBC News/Survey Monkey poll.
Espy leads with 25 percent, with interim Republican and former Democrat Cindy Hyde-Smith ranking second with 24 percent. McDaniel the conservative state senator stands at 19 percent with a full 27 percent undecided. (RELATED: Cindy Hyde-Smith’s State Director Linked To Hillary Clinton).
The Mississippi Senate race will go to a runoff on November 27 three weeks after Election Day if none of the candidates clears 50 percent. The top two vote-getters will advance.

President Donald Trump is stumping for Mississippi Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, saying a vote for her is a vote for him.
Trump on Tuesday called her a “true Mississippi patriot.” She lauded Trump and said to the crowd: “Is he not the best president we have ever had?”
Hyde-Smith was appointed this year to fill the seat of Republican Thad Cochran. She faces Republican Chris McDaniel and Democrats Mike Espy and Tobey Bernard Bartee in next month’s special election for the remainder of the two-year term.
Trump says a vote for Espy is a vote for the Democrat agenda for “open borders and radical socialism.”
Some rallygoers wore “Trump voters for McDaniel” T-shirts.
When Trump introduced her, there were some audible boos from some corners of the audience.

Kendall Prewett, Donald Trump regional coordinator and 2016 campaign committee member, announced his support for Chris McDaniel, the conservative Senate challenger in Mississippi.
Prewett explained that “his opponent Cindy Hyde-Smith pushed for a gun ban on state property.”
McDaniel released the video endorsement on the day President Trump visited Mississippi for his epic rally in Southaven. The president heard repeated chants of “We want McDaniel” in his crowd.

Conservative state senator Chris McDaniel has earned the endorsement of the Americans For Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) in his bid to win the U.S. Senate seat from Mississippi.

McDaniel is vying to make the top two in a four-way field in November’s special election, which will be followed by a runoff on November 27. McDaniel is gaining on Cindy Hyde-Smith, the former Democrat and Hillary Clinton voter who temporarily took over the Senate seat by gubernatorial appointment.

“We need the voice and vote of Chis McDaniel in the US Senate to oppose the DC establishment insiders who continue to force illegal alien Amnesty bills on the American public,” ALIPAC president William Gheen said in a statement.
“Chris McDaniel has made it clear he stands with American students, workers, taxpayers, and voters instead of the Washington special interests that support illegal immigrants and Amnesty,” Gheen said.

Chris McDaniel has pulled to within five points of his Republican opponent Cindy Hyde-Smith and six points of Democrat leader Mike Espy in the latest NBC News/Survey Monkey poll.

Espy leads with 25 percent, with interim Republican and former Democrat Cindy Hyde-Smith ranking second with 24 percent. McDaniel the conservative state senator stands at 19 percent with a full 27 percent undecided.

Merle Flowers, leader of the Mississippi Victory Fund, warned a prominent Chris McDaniel supporter’s girlfriend that “Mitch McConnell will leave no stone unturned, including Personal Stuff.” Flowers made the threat in a text message to the girlfriend of Kendall Prewett, a Trump campaign alum who supports Chris McDaniel.
    Here is the text threat:

Kendall Prewett, Donald Trump regional coordinator and 2016 campaign committee member, is a strong supporter of Chris McDaniel.

“Merle Flowers used Mitch McConnell to threaten me because I don’t support McConnell’s hand-selected candidate. The D.C. Establishment will do anything to keep Chris McDaniel out of office,” Kendall Prewett told Big League Politics.

“I backed President Donald Trump to rid Mississippi and D.C. of people like Merle Flowers, Mitch McConnell, and Cindy Hyde-Smith. Mississipians are sick and tired of being pushed around by the elites,” Prewett said.
Flowers’ super PAC is supporting interim senator Cindy Hyde-Smith in the Mississippi Senate race, despite growing support for insurgent conservative state senator Chris McDaniel. Either McDaniel or Hyde-Smith will likely end up in a runoff with Democrat Mike Espy since no candidate is expected to receive 50 percent of the vote on November 6. If McDaniel edges Hyde-Smith to get into the top two, he will face Espy head-on on November 27.
Hyde-Smith is coming under harsh criticism from Mississippi voters for her record as a longtime Democrat and former Hillary Clinton voter. (READ: Cindy Hyde-Smith’s State Director Linked To Hillary Clinton).

Appointed U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith has been saying she was too busy in her new job in Washington to appear in public debates against her opponents.

But in a video sent anonymously to her opponent Chris McDaniel's campaign and supplied by the campaign to media, Hyde-Smith indicates her refusal to debate is political strategy.

"I love debates," Hyde-Smith appears to tell an unidentified woman at a private meet and greet who is urging her to participate in a debate. Their faces are not shown in the video. "But right now, my opponent does not have enough money to get on TV and my guys are saying that's like handing him a $200,000 campaign donation because he's way down in the polls and he's wanting TV time."

The unidentified woman in the conversation replied, "Bless your heart."

Republican Hyde-Smith has declined to accept invitations to at least two debates. Her refusal prompted Democratic candidate Mike Espy to also decline, saying he would not debate unless the current office holder participated.

    Full leaked video:

Mississippi State Sen. Chris McDaniel (R-MS) slammed Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith’s (R-MS) recent comment disparaging Mississippi voters in an interview with Breitbart News Saturday.

Breitbart News Saturday opened up the interview with McDaniel noting that the Mississippi conservative will compete against Sen. Hyde-Smith and Democrat Mike Espy in a three-way election for the Mississippi Senate seat on November 6. If no one wins more than 51 percent of the vote, the two candidates with the most support go to a run-off election for the Mississippi Senate seat.

Sen. Hyde-Smtih recently struck up controversy reminiscent of Hillary Clinton’s “Deplorables” comments this week when she and her campaign referred to Mississippi voters as “horrific” and said that McDaniel supporters could not think for themselves.

“… He’s got people that can’t think for themselves, and they believe it,” the Mississippi senator said of McDaniel supporters.

McDaniel told Breitbart News Saturday that Hyde-Smith, as a former Democrat, acted similarly to most Democrats who tend to condescend to their constituents when they realize they are losing. A previous leader of the Democratic party confirmed in June that Hyde-Smith voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary.

I can say this about Flowers, I knew him pretty well back in the early to mid 2000s and he was always a straight shooting and reasonable man.

I haven't followed his politics since I left MS, but if he's still the man he was... well, vague threats and manipulation is just out of character, in my opinion.

The big political news in the US Senate special election this week was the announcement that billionaire Robert Mercer has given $500,000 to the Remember Mississippi Super PAC backing Chris McDaniel. To date, Mercer has given the PAC a total of $1 million, by far the largest donor for the McDaniel campaign.

Establishment forces, though, have tried to use it as a negative against McDaniel by calling it “dark money” pouring into the state from outside sources and trying to tie Mercer to the Mueller Russia probe.

But these attacks are a smokescreen to hide the real story, which is the Mercer connection to Trump. Mercer was Trump’s largest contributor by far! In 2016, Mercer gave more than $15.5 million to support Trump’s presidential campaign. His daughter Rebekah served on Trump’s transition team. Mercer also gave Breitbart $10 million, turning it into a major force for the Trump movement.

Conservative State Rep. Chris McDaniel (R-MS) leads Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smtih (R-MS) in the Mississippi Senate race, according to a poll released on Monday.

A Change Research poll revealed that Democrat Mike Espy leads at 40 percent, while McDaniel has 28 percent and Sen. Hyde-Smith has 27 percent of the vote.

Change Research, a Democrat polling firm, suggested in a tweet on Monday that Espy will advance to the Senate runoff election, although it remains unclear whether his opponent will be McDaniel or Hyde-Smith.

The trucker freedom organization Stand As One announced that it has officially endorsed conservative state senator Chris McDaniel in the U.S. Senate election in Mississippi.

“Truckers stand with Chris McDaniel across Mississippi tomorrow. Thousands of Mississippi commercial truck drivers believe the time for true representation of our industry and every industry who is burdened by over regulation have a champion in Chris McDaniel. Your vote matters to our industry. Get out and vote McDaniel in 2018,” said Stand As One national spokesman Charles Claburn.

McDaniel, who bills himself as the only conservative in the race, is focused on helping truckers on issues that matter to them, including the ELD mandate, which forces truckers to stop driving when their electronic logging devices tell them they must stop by law. Many truckers hate the ELD mandate, and McDaniel is seen as the choice for anti-regulation.

McDaniel heard about the news of the endorsement on the campaign trail, and offered his warm gratitude for the truckers’ endorsement.
“I’m honored to have the endorsement of truckers in Mississippi, who work every day to provide for their families and all our families. The fight to get onerous governmental regulations off our backs and out of their cabs is a worthy one, and I look forward to fighting beside them in D.C. as we continue to strengthen America’s economy together,” McDaniel stated on the eve of Election Day.
