WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--The International Monetary Fund said late Monday that it has sold two metric tons of gold to Mauritius. The sale, which happened last week, earned the IMF $71.7 million. The transaction is part of larger IMF plan to sell 403.3 metric tons of gold--an amount equivalent to about one-eighth of its holdings. Even before gold crossed the $1,000 a troy ounce threshold, the IMF in August estimated its total holdings of 3,217 metric tons of gold were valued at $98.8 billion, according to market prices.
