Anyone here taken martial arts lessons? I've been rather appaled at the way American society has allowed there to be two standards: one for people who haven't taken lessons, and another who have. The Bill Of Rights is apparently forfeited if someone hangs a belt on you.

the only reason I can see why the whole "proven as a deadly weapon" is not that much of an issue is for this. If you have been trained then odds are you would not ever attack anyone and make sure to only get into a "self defense" altercation anyways. Also if you do end up in a fight or whatever where you feel an issue might arise then you better make sure the guy doesn't remember you lol....
I find this way to get someone in jail just as bad as the "Hate crime" addition that someone can catch a case for by saying "words" during a fight. If they can show motive that it wasn't simply two guys beating the shit out of each other then they will. Always throwing race, sexual preference and other additional charges into things. Nowadays you can get sued and or tossed in jail for next to nothing. Everyone is sue happy and scared shitless that it might happen to them. If anything train with friends or pay in cash so no long term training record could be shown or don't ever put yourself in any situation where an "even fight" still could get proven uneven in court. We need to get rid of these damn lawyers lol.... bastards all of them.

There's the rub. People use Chi (Ki, Ji whatever) and there's no way you can prove it. What's caught on audio/video tape is only a small part of the story. Tip of the iceburg

I studied ninjitsu and am trying to find a new master to study under. (I am picky, I like Japanese masters ONLY) but It looks like I am going to have to just go with Brazilian JuiJitsu. Its the only thing we have that is decent around here. (everything else is American Karate *crap*, Taw Kwan Do *crap* and a few other lame ones.
The whole "hands are a lethal weapon" thing is mainly an urban legend. I am having a hard time finding one state that actually has that on the books. I know for a fact Florida doesnt.

There are two catagories of martial arts that you can pursue. There is a soft style and a hard aggressive style. Some emphasize grappling techniques and some go for punches and kicks.
With so many people carrying concealed weapons, one would have to be foolish to pick a fight with a stranger. Further, if you pick a fight with another better trained martial artists you can be in big trouble. You do learn some humility with martial arts and you become careful with who you pick your fights with. I took Taekwondo. I would suggest a school that uses lots of safety equipment and padding and you won't really get hurt training. We call martial arts "aerobics with a purpose." It is a very social sport and you will build up your cardio, strength, balance and gymnastic skills. Tae Kwon Do can be taught in a short time compared to other styles that might take longer to learn and master. Tae Kwon Do is a hard aggressive style and might be overkill in some situations. Some of the grappling martial arts can disable people and neutralize a situation without putting them in the hospital. Many of the Chinese martial arts tend to be soft style and defensive in nature. Then what about Military Combat Training? Not the part where they teach you to push a button to launch a really big weapon that you need something really big to even move it around with to kill your enemy, I mean like their hand to hand combat stuff. I've been in the military and received absolute minimal training, but the things I was taught I remember were effective for being lethal. Kill someone with a pencil or even a straw to the throat, aim for the jugular (try the straw on a potato but do NOT put your thumb over the end of the straw or you'll be wearing a bandaid for a while). Knife combat I remember my instructor saying that if you take someone from behind, stab them in the kidney, very effective and low probability they will scream. Or always hold your knife pointed away from you and parallel with the ground. Parallel with the ground is so if you stick someone in the ribs, the tip will bounce off the rib and the whole blade will go between the ribs and hit something critical.
And thats just minimal boot camp crap that I happen to remember from Navy basic training. So would any one thats even been in the military also be subject to being a lethal weapon as well?

Lawyers can twist anything. From what I understand, you must use proportionate force.
Of course that can be very hard to do in the heat of battle. The grappling martial arts or some soft style martial arts can disarm a person and prevent them from attacking you and you probably won't put them in the hospital or kill them by using those techniques. They just look like they are harder to learn. It is always best to avoid such fights. You never know what might happen. If your opponent slips and falls and dies, they could try you for murder when you barely touch the guy. "Gichin Funakoshi (considered to be the father of modern day karate) said "Any man can fight but only the warrior walks away". I don't believe he meant that the warrior walks away because he's kicked the granny out of everyone, but rather because he doesn't need to fight." A few videos.
