    All-America Walk in Support of
    Ron Paul’s Freedom Message

    Sunday, August 26, 2007

For more information and to get involved:
    http://www.RonPaulRadio.US/allamericawalk.html
    http://www.marchacrossamerica.blogspot.com/

    Update

*We now have 30 states with either planned participation in the August 26th nationally coordinated event or in the planning stages. For a list go to http://www.RonPaulRadio.US/allamericawalk.html and see the list at the right hand side of the page.

    * We had a great teleconference on Saturday and 4 more states joined the list on the call. The next teleconference will be Tuesday at 5 PM Pacific, 7 PM Central and 8 PM Eastern. Dial-in Number: 1-712-432-2600, Participant Access Code: 26447

    * If you have planned or are planning an activity in ”Support of Ron Paul’s Freedom Message”, PLEASE put it on your calendar on your meetup group and email us asap with a link to the calendar entry so we can include that on our list of participating states. This helps us build momentum and gives us a better profile as we do outreach to media.

    Examples of planned activities:
    http://ronpaul.meetup.com/104/calendar/6165342/
    http://ronpaul.meetup.com/7/calendar/6181052/

*Please note that although this is being referred to as a "Walk", some groups are looking at other creative forms of participation other than "walking". And that's great (though walking a long distance for a candidate does make a particular statement).

*There’s a great video of Kelly Halldorson’s walk which inspired this whole thing. Must see! If one person can do so much, what can hundreds or thousands do? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyIQTsBu2C4

    Get Involved

Here’s a few things you can do to help make this event a success.

    1. Get Organized. We only have a week. If you don’t have an event planned for the 26th, throw something together right away and put it on your calendar. If you plan something and get the word out, most of the time people will just show up. If you already have another event previously planned, maybe consider adapting it in such a way as to make it an event associated with this national effort. Just go for it!

    2. Spread the word! Take a look at the list of states. If your state is not on the list, please send an email (maybe use the text on the web page) to the meetup organizer’s and anyone you know in your state and get your state on board! If your state is on board, get involved with the group that is planning the activity. And please do outreach to the meetup organizers of the states adjacent to yours if they are not already on board. Thanks! Please take these actions right away. If you are not sure what to do or want to help with the outreach effort, email us at ronpaulradio@sbcglobal.net and we’ll get you started. And just email and call everyone you know and get them involved and get them to attend your activity! Also, try to get info about this event out on blogs, message boards and such.

    3. Outreach to the Media. If you know how to do outreach to the national media, please let us know. We need someone to captain that effort. For this particular walk, we might do better to target local TV, radio and newspapers as well as blogs and online media. Develop a strategy for outreach to your local media for your group. A Press Release is being prepared and will be sent out for you to use.

    4. Call it in to Ron Paul Radio. Call into Ron Paul Radio with Steven Vincent to report your plans and help build the energy for the event on the 26th. Call in number: 1-866-582-9933

    5. Ideas? Got a great idea for the event or how to promote/organize it? Share it with us by email and/or call it in to the show and/or the teleconference on Tuesday.

    Suggestions

-Call the Campaign HQ and request some of the great new “slim jims” that they have...the primary theme is “End the War!” and it is good general purpose material.
-Try to have some signs and banners that refer to “Support for the Freedom Message” so we have a unified theme to our activities
-Take lots of pictures and video for post event promotion. Let’s create and album/slide show and lots of YouTubes!
-Write your own articles about your event and conduct your own audio/video interviews of participants and send these materials to the media. Give them something to work with and they just might use it!

HAVE FUN with this! Let’s get out there and wake America up to the FREEDOM MESSAGE and show them that we are for real and not just an internet virus!

    lol @ who's first.

Seriously, though, it's not a bad idea. I think it'd be hard to go to all 48 continental states, but you could do it like, say, from NY to LA
    I'm DjLoTi =) Liveontheisland =) I live on an island =) It's my island =)

  4. #3
I will volunteer 10 miles thru Southern California!!!!

  5. #4
I once walked 450 miles from Tucson, AZ to San Diego, CA. I imagine that I could contribute a few miles if we can get this thing organized.

  6. #5
Holy cow...This won't take much to organize with just a few of u guys around....

  7. #6
We're in...we have a network of people all around that might be willing to do it, about ten or so people. We'll talk to all of them.

  8. #7
I'll walk 40 Miles for Ron! Southern Utah.

  9. #8

Like the marches Martin Luther King Jr. had? That'd be insanely awesome.

My boyfriend said he'd walk twenty miles or more....depending on what day it is! We are around Houston, Texas.

  13. #11
It would be really cool to walk with a small group of people. I'm sure areas with Meet-ups might want to join up for a few miles here and there.

Great idea, but rather than wrap around the whole country, start in a place like Oregon and it only makes sense to end at the statue of liberty.

  15. #13
I stand by my pledge of 20 miles thru upstate South Carolina, I can connect from Anderson SC to Hartwell GA down US29.

Not a bad idea, but my vote is for the Whitehouse to be the destination.

    <steps out of box>

How about a torch starting at the Statue of Liberty and spreading like a wave in all directions?
Don't let others get you down. Not naysayers, not pretenders, not appeasers, not opportunists; none of em.

What others do pales beside what YOU do.

I think the starting point in NH is set because the woman who came up with the idea is starting there.
If we could continue her 38 mile walk down even as far as Boston, that would make decent news, bring it down to Florida or cross country and even bigger news.
It seems just about every other week some bozo rides his lawnmower across country and makes national news, so a cross country relay walk for RP should do a bit better, plus local news.

final thought, could a relay walk from NH to Ames in 11 days?

when is she starting the walk?

  21. #18
August 4th, just checked her blog at:
    http://www.blogthecoast.com/halldorson/
She's ending at the statehouse in Concord NH, would be nice if we had someone there to continue the march to Boston.

Four years ago I was training to do a walk across the country. I will pledge 3 days, at 20+ miles a day. it should be easy with meet-up groups giving support along the route. I will also check into the blog. I am in Salt Lake City, Utah and can cover the Wasatch front. Contact me if needed:

I got really excited when I saw this thread the first go-around. I was thinking people could spontaneously join up. My husband and I would gladly donate 2 days @ 20 miles per day in Washington, Oregon, or California.

When this idea came about I started designing a blog in the hopes of organizing it, but I think it would a logistical nightmare and way too much for me (or any one person) to take on alone. I am not that net savvy at all, so my attempts are pretty sad, but maybe something like it could be designed so that people could see a map, click on it, and see what miles need to be covered, then sign up for those miles. I have no idea how to accomplish this though.

    Here is the blog http://www.marchacrossamerica.blogspot.com/

If you know how this shoud be set up or know somebody with these programming capabilities, please email me at marchacrossamerica@yahoo.com.

Wow. Nice blog site. I thought this Idea had the potential to gain some traction. I wounder if Nashville could be included in the route. Lots of meetup people there.

I live in SW Florida, but I know I could participate in some Mini Walks For Ron.

Here is a device we could use for tracking progress.

Thanks just emailed them....what is your opinion if they would like to sponsor us....or the idea of Corporate Sponsors???

Could we add a paypal to our site??? Thanks

Could someone come up with a way we can take pledges...and have a map detailing sections of the march that have been reserved or pledged???

I'm thinking of a NAtionwide map/trail and colored lines for areas we have people dedicated to walk it????

    RunPaul

The "RunPaul" idea we have going on here is fantastic!

Although it will take some serious organization, I find it to be a great way to really get RP's name out there. National/local media outlets will be forced to recognize this!

    A few suggestions/comments/questions:

-- Torches are cliche. How about some type of Ron Paul banner, or maybe even the American flag?

--One person at a time or in groups?

--When? Don't rush to start this ASAP, because even if it's a big success, the media hype will have died off well before the primaries. Don't start too late or we may not make it in time for the primaries! Also consider, weather is a big factor. Therefore, I propose to begin in New York by the end of August and finish on the west coast where it is warmer in the winter months.

--Website? A better organizational tool is needed then this forum. Some kind of interactive US map is needed to plan the route

Keep it up guys, we have a stellar idea on our hands. I live in Central CA so if the RunPaul makes it way out here I will participate!
