Lightbulb Trump Executive Order: Cartels = terrorists

So if you are a street level drug deal who deals to a few people does that mean you're going to GTMO now?

A street level dealer is not a cartel member.

The problem is the government will take that to the extreme, as always, and it will be abused. Some guy who is selling to his friend, marijuana that just happened to come from a cartel, could now be charged with terrorism. That's idiotic, unconstitutional, bad policy, and unjust.

Well, the order itself (I read it) seems to just be an order for appropriate agencies to formulate a method of designating the cartels as terrorist. It also mentions something that is a real problem, which is their role in illegal immigration ("coyote" trains). So I assume the one of the primary goals is to prevent all these NGO's and charities operating in the area who are handing money to cartels in order to bus illegal immigrants into our country.

I doubt it's going to be used to send Delta Force into a cartel HQ. This would be opening a can of worms.

To your point, "where is the edge of a cartel". You use the drug case, but I think it's very much directed at the immigration case. And in that case, the edge is much bigger and much more American than people think. I know church people personally who are involved in Cuban immigrant smuggling that runs through Guatemalan coyotes.

And most of the defendants in RICO cases are not mobsters.

I would add that, in the way that it controls government regulators, the medical system, funds politicians, and its ties to the poison food industry, Big Pharma is cartel.

Another example: so-called "civil asset forfeiture" was intended for use against "drug kingpins" and the like. Now, it is routinely used to steal the money and property of ordinary, innocent citizens. (It's gotten so bad that the authors of the original civil asset forfeiture legislation have even disavowed their own work.)

Give the government an inch, and without exception, it will always end up taking a mile.

Get rid of the fentanyl and pharmaceuticals and go back to growing poppies!
Does anyone remember seeing videos of the Zombie drugs. What was it some horse tranquilizer laced heroin.

Maybe street level dealers are not providing a service people want or need.
The war on opiates was misplaced. Opiates been around for thousands of years and people used them as medicine and recreation.

Imagine you score come smack and it is laced with horse tranquilizer and then you are a zombie addict.

I would have to say the problem in on the street too.
