'Not Our Fight!': Trump Weighs In On Syria's Unraveling

President-elect Donald Trump has weighed in on the rapid-moving events in Syria, where jihadist groups backed by Turkey are entering the outside environs of the capital of Damascus. The embattled President Bashar al-Assad still appears to be in residence, but his future is far from certain.
"Opposition fighters in Syria, in an unprecedented move, have totally taken over numerous cities, in a highly coordinated offensive, and are now on the outskirts of Damascus, obviously preparing to make a very big move toward taking out Assad," he began the statement on Truth Social.
Trump emphasized that Washington should stay completely out, calling the situation a "mess" and that it is "not our fight". He posted the same message on X.

It alludes to Russia's inability to continue protecting Syria, given it is bogged down in the nearly three year long Ukraine war, while also blasting former President Obama's past Syria policies and that he laid down 'red lines'.
    Below is the full statement:
Russia, because they are so tied up in Ukraine, and with the loss there of over 600,000 soldiers, seems incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years. This is where former President Obama refused to honor his commitment of protecting the RED LINE IN THE SAND, and all hell broke out, with Russia stepping in. But now they are, like possibly Assad himself, being forced out, and it may actually be the best thing that can happen to them. There was never much of a benefit in Syria for Russia, other than to make Obama look really stupid.
Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED!”
Opposition fighters in Syria, in an unprecedented move, have totally taken over numerous cities, in a highly coordinated offensive, and are now on the outskirts of Damascus, obviously preparing to make a very big move toward taking out Assad. Russia, because they are so tied up…

Trump ordered us out of Syria, then when the deepstate lied to him and defied him he made the best of a bad situation.

I understand your confusion. It is definitely the liberty position to stay out.
However, the current situation wouldn't be this way without 'our' involvement.

    Yeah and?

Why did Trump bend the knee to Lindsey Graham and some RINOs when they stormed into the White House to beg for Trump to stop his withdraw order/request from Syria?

This garbage senator is the one that begged Trump not to withdraw from Syria.

I actually believe Trump this time. I don't expect him to have any involvment, hopefully he pulls out any remaining US troops.

It seems like this "not our problem" policy is going to extend to Ukraine and perhaps Iran as well.

It's a delicate situation. You want a common-sense foreign policy position, but you can't allow Trump to look even remotely somewhat sort of good, but still not very good, but still intolerably mediocre.

Personally, I'd rather have war, than to give Trump even the slightest inkling of an impression that he's (perhaps accidentally) doing something right.

I would recommend we keep quiet, and let the neocons keep whispering in Trump's ear, while we join the left in denouncing everything he does.

Imagine believing that this fanfiction actually makes Trump look better, rather than even more incompetent.

Trump was nearly alone inside the entrenched power structure of the swamp, he had the Ds and the RINOs trying to impeach him for supposedly being a Russian agent.
He did remarkably well and will do better with more support this time.

Have you seen some posts here saying that staying out of other countries' wars is not the liberty position?
There is nothing to fear from globalism, free trade and a single worldwide currency, but a globalism where free trade is competitively subsidized by each nation, a continuous trade war is dictated by the WTO, and the single currency is pure fiat, fear is justified. That type of globalism is destined to collapse into economic despair, inflationism and protectionism and managed by resurgent militant nationalism.

I have problems with Massie, but even he knows Trump was against interfering in Syria and the deepstate defied him.
Since so many people here treat him as the voice of god I thought they should have to deal with what he said.

He reduced our presence and activity as much as he could get them to.
He also cut off funding and support for their proxies and used the military faction to destroy the CIA ISIS faction.

He deployed more troops, hid the number of deployed troops from the American people, and gave the CIA more funding and more autonomy.

The president can fire any military officer at will. If they disobeyed him and prevented him from doing the thing that he really wanted to do, why didn't he do absolutely anything about it?
