So....long story short. My license is still good through next year. I have opted up until this point not to get a Real ID compliant license. Recently I was needed to get a rental car and the young person behind the counter walked out for a minute and came back and said "I can't rent a car to you because this is a paper license and not a real license." It was NOT paper. And I had been recently stopped for a burned out tail light so I knew my license was good and explained all of that. I was like "Can I talk to your surpervisor?" and the response was "He's out in the van now." Eventually I looked at my license and realized what was "wrong." The license says "Not for Real ID Act Purposes." So I politely said "This is a real license. You might not have heard of the Real ID Act but it's an act that starting next year will prevent me from getting on a plane with this driver's license unless I have a passport. I can still drive with this license and I should be able to rent a car with this license but I'm not going to wait here and argue with you. I'm telling you this so you can go Google this for yourself and realize I'm telling you the truth for the next person who comes in with the same not Real ID drivers license."
Anyhow, that' s my rant for today. Thanks for NOTHING Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee! (@Matt Collins at least gave her hell over this but I wish she could get primaried out of office.)
