God save us from "efficient" government!
The Bastiat Collection · FREE PDF · FREE EPUB · PAPER Frédéric Bastiat (1801-1850)
- "When law and morality are in contradiction to each other, the citizen finds himself in the cruel alternative of either losing his moral sense, or of losing his respect for the law."
-- The Law (p. 54)- "Government is that great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else."
-- Government (p. 99)- "[W]ar is always begun in the interest of the few, and at the expense of the many."
-- Economic Sophisms - Second Series (p. 312)- "There are two principles that can never be reconciled - Liberty and Constraint."
-- Harmonies of Political Economy - Book One (p. 447)· tu ne cede malis sed contra audentior ito ·
"Government efficiency" is an oxymoron.
Unlike private actors, government has little to no incentive to be "efficient", because it suffers little or no serious or significant consequences for being "inefficient" (none, at least, that can't be fobbed off onto someone else - such as tax payers, et al.).
Even if genuinely dedicated reformers manage to somehow reduce wastefulness, etc., it can't and won't last - the system will inevitably revert to form and the status quo ante will reassert itself. (But in the meantime, it would be fun watching a bunch of outraged pundits and parasitic bureaucrats squeal like stuck pigs - so there's that, I guess ...)
... they will create even more inefficient agencies in the attempt to make it more "efficient", while rolling out AI and digital crypto so that no matter where on earth one may be there will be no escape
As long as government is involved there is one thing for absolute certain: it ends up costing everybody more except for the 1% who profit.

As if the government is capable of being efficient.

This is why it's so genius to put Elon in charge of government efficiency. Because Elon does have an incentive for the government to be efficient, at least in terms of how it affects his businesses.
Once Elon is doing removing the regulations that affect his business, put someone else in charge that also has stake in the game, for other industries.
As long as the role is limited to removing regulation, vs creating new regulations, seems like it can only be a good thing.

Given Elon's status as a Randian "Public Enemy Number Two" ('coz Trump is "Public Enemy Number One", don'cha know), it would certainly amp up the volume on the squealing ... (hell, it might even "go to eleven" ...)
... so I'm all for it. It would be worth it for that reason alone. Anything else would just be gravy.

Yeah, I'm all for cutting waste and fraud, but the words "efficient government" scare the hell outta me.
"And now that the legislators and do-gooders have so futilely inflicted so many systems upon society, may they finally end where they should have begun: May they reject all systems, and try liberty; for liberty is an acknowledgment of faith in God and His works." - Bastiat

Yea space $#@! is cool. I'm pretty much OK if they want to steal my money for that.
What I'd love to be around to see, but won't barring some kind of scientific miracle, is when human kind gets to the point where it's colonizing the asteroid belt and beyond, it's gonna be a giant leap for freedom. Our ancestors had an ocean they could use to escape tyranny, we will eventually have the entire unexplored universe.
That is, of course, if an authoritarian race of aliens hasn't already colonized all the good spots and we just don't know about it yet.

To paraphrase Musk:
“The government strangles us with regulations, and I will help make it do what it does more efficiently.”
"When Sombart says: "Capitalism is born from the money-loan", I should like to add to this: Capitalism actually exists only in the money-loan;" - Theodor Fritsch
Ron PaulThere is nothing to fear from globalism, free trade and a single worldwide currency, but a globalism where free trade is competitively subsidized by each nation, a continuous trade war is dictated by the WTO, and the single currency is pure fiat, fear is justified. That type of globalism is destined to collapse into economic despair, inflationism and protectionism and managed by resurgent militant nationalism.
Congressional Record (March 13, 2001)
Exactly. The only way to reduce government is to get rid of entire functions. You're always going to have waste, fraud and abuse. That's a constant we just have to live with.
Of course we're never going to reduce government on our own as long as we can print and borrow. But the printing and borrowing is going to come to an end soon. High to hyper-inflation will end it.
Jer. 11:18-20. "The Kingdom of God has come upon you." -- Matthew 12:28
Just make it 95%, or even 98%. With the way technology is advancing and the push for digital money, all that will be needed are algorithms to track and collect no matter where on earth you may go. Skip/manipulate a payment they simply shut off your account.
Unlike a privately run business, if I had a choice between efficient and non-efficient government, I'd opt for non-efficient government every single time.

I have no issues with legal immigrants. I work in tech and most of my coworkers are H-1B or naturalized former H-1Bs.
Here's a shocker for you: a lot of H-1Bs are pro-Trump/Republican due to they immigrated legally and they consider it a slap in the face for other foreigners to just walk over the border and then get "amnesty", aka breaking the law and being rewarded for it. So, who cares if Musk fired a bunch of blue-haired, grande-latte-toting Wokies -- being a citizen and opposing everything that America stands for doesn't make you higher value than an immigrant, it just makes you a traitor. And a lot of H-1Bs understand that basic fact precisely because they're playing by the rules...

Donald Trump and Elon Musk want to make the federal government more efficient. But if the true aim of our political system is not to solve the problems facing Americans but to transfer wealth to the government and the politically-connected, the government is already very efficient.
