    "Unsurvivable Storm Surge!!!"

    "Hundreds May Die!!!"

The reporting on these storms is just over the top anymore.

Inciting a panic is a criminal offense in Florida.

If Alex Jones can be financially ruined for stating an opinion, if Ricky Vaughn can go to jail for $#@!posting Hillary memes, then how about charging the Marxist media organs for inciting a panic with this bull$#@!?

Yeah, it's a bad storm, there will be heavy damage in spots, some folks sadly will lose their lives for various reasons.

Hundreds are not going to be dead in the morning, Armageddonesque storm surges are not going to kill everybody.

This spun up and out of control nonsense is tiresome.

Yeah, I can recall when "Unsurvivable Event" used to mean that "Certain Death" would befall those experiencing the event. It seems like "Climate Hysteria" is an unsurvivable event as far as the traditional definition of English words goes.

Bayshore Boulevard in Tampa Bay this afternoon:

My choice of third person pronouns for myself is generally irrelevant. I'm not typically involved in the conversations that use them. It's other people referring to me in the third person, usually from a distance. I'm not a conversational partner in those exchanges. Those people could be referring to me as "That A$$hole" or "That Motherfukker" for all I know.

Honestly it’s a little embarrassing. Not to take away from the damage and destruction a hurricane can bring but the over the top reporting is out of hand. In Sarasota here and yes had some storm surge and street flooding. Got a little windy and some heavy bands of rain but pretty much a storm.
There has to be a realistic balance between hype and genuine concern. Otherwise it’s always “the sky is falling”.
Reminds me of when I lived in Pa, 3 inches of snow predicted and stores ran out of bread and milk, lol.

You left out Eggs: Bread, Eggs and Milk. Everyone seems to be desperate for French Toast during natural emergencies.

It hits the mark in one sense but kind of misses the big picture. If you want to confound the political wing of the alarmists, tell them this:
Hurricane Ernesto (CAT 2 in August) had twice the impact at substantiating the global warming hypothesis than did Hurricane Helene (CAT 4 in September)
It'll make them apoplectic because they'd rather use the sexy stats of death and destruction than what the hypothesis is really about. The stats they broadcast are:
    Ernesto Stats:
    - CAT 2
    - Max Wind: 100 mph
    - Destruction: $24.3 million
    - Deaths: 3 (they went swimming and got caught in rip tides)
    Helene Stats:
    - CAT 4
    - Max Wind: 140 mph
    - Destruction: >$20 billion (almost 1,000 times that of Ernesto)
    - Deaths: 52 (Primarily drownings from storm surge and inland flooding)

But here's why Ernesto bolsters the hypothesis better. The climate warming hypothesis, with respect to cyclones, is that increasing the potential energy of the ocean (by heating it) will result in a greater transformation of that potential energy into the kinetic energy of cyclones. There’s a metric for that kinetic energy called Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) which you can read about here. It’s used by all the cyclone tracking centers (like these with the University of Colorado Atmospheric Science Department) but you never hear it on the news. From that Colorado webpage you can see that ACE for Ernesto was 14.4 versus 7.1 for Helene. Truthfully though, it’s the ACE for an entire hurricane season that’s most relevant for the hypothesis (rather than for individual storms), though Ernesto did contribute twice as much towards the 2024 season total than did Helene.

Almost forgot - scroll down that Wikipedia webpage for ACE and you'll see what the top ten Atlantic hurricane seasons were according to that ACE measure (only three are in the 21st century).

In Orlando... a bit windy and some rain, but no big deal for us thankfully. The entire west coast saw some serious flooding though.

They're not only incapable of getting you out of the danger zone, the storm makes them a new, additional hazard in their own right.

    Thanks for meddling, government!

“Please write your name, birthday, and important information on your arm or leg in a PERMANENT MARKER so that you can be identified and family notified,” the sheriff’s office in mostly rural Taylor County warned those who chose not to evacuate in a Facebook post, the dire advice similar to what other officials have dolled out during past hurricanes.
    Alarmist.

I wonder why this thread is not getting any traction?

Things seem pretty bad in many places.

And the government's response is its usual shambolic $#@! show.

I realize prepping will do you no good if your home and everything in it is washed away in massive wall of $#@!.

But people who did not have that happen should pay close attention for next time.

You are your own "first responder".

I dunno. I do remember back when Hurricane Katrina happened, Republicans saying "Those black people in New Orleans should just rescue themselves." I remember how awful the Bush response was with FEMA actually blocking first responders from coming in for "reasons." And there was the gun confiscation and the failure at the Superdome. Different half of the uniparty. Same response.

Why do people prep? The mainstream media demeans preppers as irrational and out of touch with reality. From a scientific point of view, however, prepping is rational, efficient, and very normal.
