'White Dudes For Harris' Sees Thousands Sign Up Against Trump

A newly organized campaign called "White Dudes for Harris" is holding a mass video call this evening, saying that "it's time for white men to get 100 percent engaged and make sure Kamala Harris is elected as our next President."

It already claims to have 75,000 participants registered for the call at 8 p.m. EST tonight, with transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg and actor Mark Hamill scheduled to speak.

Organizer Mark Greene, an author who writes about masculinity, said in the event description that the group aims to support Kamala Harris's presidential bid, countering the Republican Party which he says represents a culture that "has positioned white men at the top of a bullying and rigid dominance-based culture of masculinity."

The group says it was inspired by the leadership of Black women in political movements, with Greene asserting that white men must also step up to advocate for change, and to help stop Donald Trump and J.D. Vance's policy platform, particularly in relation to women's rights on abortion, birth control, and IVF, which he describes as the policies of "Christian Nationalists."

Greene said that white men have either actively participated in the "white supremacy of the Republican Party or stood by in silence and let it happen. This is on us, brothers," Greene said.

"I believe millions of white men are angry at what is being done by Republican white supremacists in our name," he said. "We're angry that the Republican Party presumes to speak for us. Well, it's time to prove it, brothers."

The initiative calls for participants to actively support Harris over the next 100 days, through social media and workplace advocacy. Greene's message to his fellow white men: "When we end our silence, go all in for Kamala Harris for President, we choose freedom."

Imagine if Trump came out and just said this: “White men have been demonized and scapegoated for too long. They helped build this country. They deserve respect.”

Yes the media would go ape $#@!. Let them. There’s nothing wrong with that statement at all. You’d have to be a psychopath to disagree with it. The only voters offended would be the ones Republicans can’t win anyway.

Meanwhile, millions and millions of white men would hear themselves actually defended by name — the same way every other group is — for the first time on the national political stage. A huge mobilizing moment that also has the added benefit of baiting the opposition into saying insane and inflammatory things about voters they also need.

What’s the downside here? It’s right morally to stick up for an unfairly demonized group. It’s also smart politically. Win/win.

I don't know, this all seems like a very obvious trap.
I've never thought of myself as a white man. I was raised on childrens media in the late 70s that was still teaching kids that your skin didn't define you. I went to public school in New Orleans where I was a minority. I was listening to hip-hop before other white people were because that's what all my friends were listening to, and I had to be told by older people that was n****er music.
Even into my adolescence, you had Lawrence Fishburne playing a cowboy on Pee Wee's Playhouse and we were all like "yeah, ok sure".
The times I've been to a black church I felt super uncomfortable, but I had to find out later it was the exact same discomfort I feel when I'm in a sea of white people. The discomfort of feeling like I have to do certain things to belong.
Whenever I'm standing in a group of "white men" I think 'jfc someone at least throw a Greek or a Hungarian in here' because it's stifling.
Monolithic thinking is objectively anti progress. And if there's cultural pressure for me to act a certain way then I'm going to feel compelled not to be my usual fractured and unburdened self.

Appealing to white men is bait. It's the same bait as appealing to black men.
Nobody who found this site in 2008 thought "oh gee this is where the white men are, I guess I'll sign up".

Seems like every other day there's something here saying "Hey, remember 2004? Remember how we all felt relieved after Bush got reelected? Let's all go back to 2004 and forget all this new stuff we used to believe."

In 1975 America was over 85 percent white.

Now it is close to 50.

And that's why race and ethnicity is now becoming part of daily life and a growing concern.

I would add that it's kind of a strawman appeal to authority, as in "we aren't just a political ad, we did our research, so you don't have to. You should trust us, we did our research."

I was just reminded that a woman I know (nominally Democrat, but doesn't follow politics) said about the Taylor Swift endorsement: "but she didn't tell us what to do, she just said to research it."

That is exactly what this latest Democrat talking point is all about. Low information voters are programmed by the celebrities, but don't even consciously realize it. They will even deny it afterwards.
