This was a complete and total failure by the SS and local law enforcement. I won't speculate on conspiracy theories at this point without compelling evidence. The most likely cause was ordinary, everyday, incompetence.
That being said, the Biden Admin's denial of SS protection to RFK, Jr. and limiting support for Trump's SS detail are pretty much evidence of a LIHOP situation.

From someone who was there and a regular shooter: definitely not a .22. We heard it loud over the crowd noise. No way was that a .22

I think I figured out how the media is going to spin this in a day or two (after the initial faked concern).
They're going to say trump's a racist who brings out anger and fear in everyone so this wasn't a surprise. Then they're going to say this is even more reason to vote against trump because he's more dangerous than ever, he's going to be bent on revenge, striking out at anyone he thinks is an enemy.

150 yards is within the range of .22 LR subsonic, with a good rifle and a steady hand.

It's possible but pushing it. Reports are that the dead person had brain matter coming out. A .22 probably wouldn't do that at long range.

I think he will discuss it with advisors, but I can't see Trump showing them the respect of speaking with them in a truce-y manner, not after all the things they've done to him! They don't deserve it.
They're all out there making statements now about how "there's no place for political violence", "we have to come together," "so glad Trump is okay" - Obama, Schumer, Pelosi, Hakeem Jefferys - all of them.
My feeling is just - $#@! them. Trump should just go on with his campaign pointing out the disgusting behavior the dems have exhibited lo these many years. Let the dems go on with their campaign - let's see what they can do with that.
