Le Pen's nationalist party wins big in EU vote, Macron responds by dissolving parliament

Macron Trounced by Le Pen’s Populists at EuroParl Elections, Immediately Dissolves Parliament for Snap National Election

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/202...onal-election/

OLIVER JJ LANE 9 Jun 2024

Le Pen’s populist-nationalist got twice as many votes as the governing group of Emmanuel Macron’s globalist centrists in Sunday’s European Parliament election, prompting Macron to immediately dissolve the national parliament and call fresh French elections in a bid to regain authority for the remainder of his presidential term.

Marine Le Pen’s National Rally (RN, Rassemblement National) party looks set to become the largest single party in the European Union after a spectacular result in Sunday’s elections for the European Parliament. Votes that began on Thursday across the European Union to choose the next Parliament finished Sunday evening, and exit polls suggest a strong showing for right wing parties, although perhaps short of the landslide across the continent some polling had suggested.

But there were strong national differences, and France was perhaps the most remarkable result of all. The European grouping for President Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance party barely scraped second place in the Ipsos exit poll — by a fraction of a per cent — and was left in the dust of the first place RN. Le Pen’s RN, led by party colleague and Member of the European Parliament Jordan Bardella got over twice as many votes at 31.5 per cent of all cast compared to 14.7 per cent for Renaissance.

RN is predicted in the exit poll to pick up 30 seats in the European Parliament compared to Macron’s 14. This is a significant number, and assuming exit polls are broadly correct across Europe it would make Le Pen’s RN the largest single party in the European Parliament.

This hammer-blow to President Macron’s authority triggered an instant response on Sunday night, as he announced he was dissolving the national Parliament for a snap election later this month. Win that vote and Macron would claim a strong national mandate to continue to govern as President for the rest of his term. Lose that, however, and at best he would have to sit until April 2027 as a lame duck.

It’s a massive gamble, but Macron will have to hope the French people will treat elections for their important national parliament differently to their vote for the remote and less consequential European Parliament in Brussels. This effect was well demonstrated in the years when Britain was still a member of the European Union, and the Eurosceptic UKIP and then Brexit parties of Nigel Farage were major vote-winners for Brussels, but struggled to get a toe-hold for Westminster.

But Le Pen’s RN has momentum on its side, and with just 21 days to go until the first round of that snap election called tonight, Macron may have a hard time turning the narrative around. But he’s had a good try already, reports French broadsheet Le Figaro. Delivering the news in a speech on Sunday night, the President said: “I have decided to give you the choice of our parliamentary future again by voting… [this is a] serious, heavy decision, but above all it is an act of trust”, and saying he wants to “let the sovereign people speak”.

    Seems pretty corrupt.

Guillaume Tusseau, a professor of public law at Sciences Po Paris, told French newspaper Le Figaro that Article 12 of France's Constitution says that "the President of the Republic may, after consultation with the Prime Minister and the presidents of the assemblies, pronounce the dissolution" of the latter.
    ...
Assuming Macron does have the constitutional right, how does he go about dissolving parliament?

He would need to first consult with the prime minister (Élisabeth Borne), the president of the Senate (Gérard Larcher, who is part of the opposition Les Républicains party) and the president of the Assemblée nationale.

This is where it gets tricky: Richard Ferrand, the current president of the Assembly was defeated in his re-election campaign, so his post is currently empty. A vote is scheduled on June 28th, where the deputés (MPs) will come together to elect a new candidate.
    ...

Hmmm. So it looks like Macron took advantage of a power vacuum while there was no president of the Assembly to oppose him?

I don't claim to understand French politics, but LePen's party always seems to do well in the European parliament elections, but not in the French national elections.

Aside from Poland who have historical and proximity issues with Russia, France probably has the most skin in the Proxy war in Ukraine. Russia has been moving into areas of Africa that are rich in resources, in areas that are strongly under French control/Influence. French is the 3rd most spoken language in Africa and 1st most spoken Indo-European Language. I'm guessing the French globalists want more influence abroad and the nationalists want more influence at home as they're getting over run by immigrants who hate them.

My guess is that Macron knows the swell of discontent will only rise higher. He's trying to get ahead of it and will surely be doing as much rigging as he can get away with, with the help of the financial elites and their corporations and NGO's to keep Le Pen out of office. You need to know the history of the National Front party (name recently changed to National Rally) which Le Pen inherited from her father. Her father is 90 and now under charges by the EU. World Jewry will do everything possible to stop her from obtaining the leadership of France. They don't believe her when she's tried to separate her views from those of her father. And they shouldn't, because she knows what they really are.

France - Macron says he will not vacate office, even if he loses "snap" election

France Snap Election: Macron Says he Won’t Resign No Matter What

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/202...o-matter-what/

OLIVER JJ LANE 11 Jun 2024

President Emmanuel Macron threw down the gauntlet to the French people and the right-populist opposition on Sunday, calling a snap election to save his leadership, but now says he won’t resign even if he loses.

France will elect a new Parliament on June 30th after an astonishingly short election campaign of just three weeks after the fresh vote was called on Sunday just hours after President Emmanuel Macron’s political faction was handed a humiliating defeat in the European elections. The National Rally (RN) right-populists of Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella got twice as many votes as Macron’s group, the highest proportion of any French political party in 40 years.

Macron’s ‘put up or shut up’ challenge to the French people could risk everything if the RN wins, particularly now a putative unite-the-right coalition to win the election is coalescing around Le Pen. But high-stakes or not, Macron has now insisted even if he suffers a second massive defeat, he won’t surrender the Elysée Palace and will attempt to continue to govern a country clearly opposed to him, and without the support of parliament.

Per Le Parisien, Macron invoked the French constitution to insist that while two back-to-back mega defeats may feel like the right time to bow out, nevertheless he’d cling on. He said: “It is not the RN which writes the Constitution, nor the spirit of it. The institutions are clear, the place of the president, whatever the result, is also clear.”

He had called the election to “clarify” the political situation in the country, Macron said, while calling on the French to make sure they vote, stating: “I’m [doing this] to win!”.

As things stand, if RN outright won the election, which will be held in two rounds at the end of this month and on July 7th Macron would probably have little choice but to appoint RN president Jordan Bardella as Prime Minister. With so much still up in the air, it remains unclear what this would mean for France and its political fortunes.

French Presidents have governed with an opposed Parliament before, and Macron does not even control Parliament now. It has also been floated that Macron envisions Bardella and Le Pen taking power in Parliament as part of his long-game plan, a trap set for the right by giving them a taste of power, which the centrist-globalist would presumably be relying on them messing up.

Why would he? He was elected to his second five-year term as President in 2022. He'll be President until 2027. The snap election is for members of Parliament. Expecting him to step down because his party lost control of Parliament would be like expecting the US president to step down after his party lost control of Congress in a mid-term election.

    You're right.

I thought he announced an election for all seats in government, including his own.

The information was expensive to come by ... LOL ... When my daughter was in college, I sent her to Paris for a semester and to Arles in the South of France for a summer. These days I'll get a couple of emails a month from her where the subject line is "Because They Are French" (the implied tone being that of Robin Williams)

Marine Le Pen Will She Be Any Different? France Elections

There are several Israeli officials who are happy on the prospects of a Marine Le Pen Presidency.
Le Pen Called Her party "Pro Zionist Party"

Le Pen has become so pro Israel she had recently blasted any form of Palestine recognition. This begs the question if Le Pen would be or do any different from Macron recently.

I doubt that Le Pen will live up to fulfill her promises to the French of mass deportations.

France's left-wing alliance is projected to be largest bloc in parliament in surprise result

In a surprise second-round result, the left-wing New Popular Front is projected to finish ahead of Marine Le Pen’s far-right party in French parliamentary elections, according to an IPSOS estimate following runoff elections.

The New Popular Front, comprised of five parties, is projected to win 172 to 192 seats. At least 289 seats are needed to secure an absolute majority.

President Emmanuel Macron’s party, Ensemble, is projected to be the second largest block with 150 to 170 seats, exceeding expectations.

Le Pen’s far-right National Rally will come a close third with between 132 and 152 seats, according to the projection, a significant increase from the 89 seats won in 2022.
