Takeaways from Day 1 of Hunter Biden's firearms trial
It was impossible to escape the presence of the first family, their influence and their long history hovering over the courtroom.

The Biden family members seated in a court in Wilmington, Delaware, for the start of Hunter Biden’s gun trial Monday share many of the hardships as the jurors who will weigh the fate of the president's son. Hunter Biden is himself a former drug addict, on trial accused of illegal gun possession and making false statements. He is divorced and remarried. He has experienced death, as when his brother died of a brain tumor in 2015 and when his biological mother and younger sister died in a car crash when he was 2 years old.

Hunter Biden is also the president’s son, a distinction that was impossible to ignore as, time and again, jurors name-dropped members of the Biden family during jury selection or coyly conceded that, yes, they had once donated to a political campaign — and yes — it had been to the “Bidens.”

Peering over peach-colored eyeglasses, Biden sat upright as dozens of potential jurors filed through U.S District Judge Maryellen Noreika’s court during an at times grueling selection process. Noon had passed when Hunter’s lead attorney, Abbe Lowell, gently asked, “For the schedule, are we thinking, I forget if there was supposed to be a lunch break today or not?”

Seated behind him were not only the attorneys, reporters and sketch artists who typically fill the courtroom in high-profile cases but also first lady Jill Biden, who embraced her son, his half-sister and even his son-in-law.

It was a gripping scene in a historic case in which the president's son could face up to 25 years in jail. The first lady described the charges as “cruel” in an interview with MSNBC this year. She sat directly behind her son, eyeing the proceedings closely and offering support to him and other family members.

At times, she shook her head, as she did when a former police officer, a potential juror, described following the case in the news. The first lady also at times placed an arm around Melissa Cohen Biden, Hunter’s wife.

“We’ll be here tomorrow,” Cohen Biden mouthed quietly to the defense party at the end of the day.

Here’s what you missed on Day 1 of Hunter Biden’s trial:

    Jury sworn in
As voir dire began Monday morning, dozens of potential jurors were in the benches of Noreika’s courtroom. By its close, a jury of 12 — six men and six women — and four alternates had been sworn in. The group included an Obama voter, gun owners and people who have seen addiction up close.
    ...
    Biden family shows up

Before Biden stepped foot in court Monday, a powerful quorum of allies and family members stood ready to surround and support him. First to arrive were Hunter’s half-sister, Ashley, and Kevin Morris, an entertainment lawyer who is helping to pay Biden's legal fees.

Biden will most likely wait until after the election to do that.

The stark contrast between coverage of hunter biden’s trial and trump’s trial says everything I need to know about who is being protected and who they are trying to tell me is somehow evil. Because I can see with my own eyes and think with my own brain, this sort of difference in treatment only solidifies my belief that the Biden family must be removed from power at any cost.

And when evil is telling you to run from something, while clearly lying and masking it’s true intentions, it is wise to consider that thing they are warning you against is actually the solution to the problem. The cleaner for the filth.

For me, there is no other choice in this election but to vote for Trump.

Common now. Somebody doing drugs and utilizing their entrepreneurial abilities for the betterment of society and foreign policy is nothing when compared to Trump colluding with Russia, falsifying important business information, election interference, being the head of an insurrection, trying to eliminate the peaceful transfer of power... Too much to list. Hunter is almost a Libertarian.

Probably the Bonnanos, the Coloumbos, the Gambinos, and the Genovese were probably all more trustworthy than the Government.

It's funny that some of the same people that are ranting and raving that they smoke weed and want their gun rights are ready to string up Biden's son for smoking crack and buying a gun.

    Nice strawman.

The best case scenario would be for Hunter to be found guilty of the gun charges, and then appeal them to the Supreme Court based on the 2nd Amendment. But that won't happen. Hunter will be found innocent. It was decided when the jury was chosen, like every other case.

Exactly. Instead of addressing the real issues like the 2nd Amendment and drug laws, which are disproportionately used against people like the people on the jury, they will find him innocent because he's a Biden, and he's on their side. And thus those unfairly prosecuted laws will continue to oppress them.

WHAT????? You believe Biden and son taking money for inside access to the President is just fine?? Or is that what you are referring to as “entrepreneurial skill”?

What “collusion with Russia”, the head of an insurrection??? Are you serious?

I haven't seen anyone doing that (except in a sarcastic "sauce for the goose" kind of way).

But if you can point them out, I'll help you make fun of them.

He should skate - at least, on these particular charges (which shouldn't exist in the first place).

Trump should have skated, too (and for the same reasons).

It's all just a bunch of malum prohibitum bull$#@!.

So of course, those are the things they actually go after him for.

Hunter gets the Trump treatment (or Trump gets the Hunter treatment) - they both get charged for the things they shouldn't, and don't get charged for the things they should. This is how the "Just Us" part of the system sweeps the system's embarrassments under the rug.

    Don't you watch the news?
Heck Trump has been convicted in two separate trials this year alone! He is a convicted Felon and we want to demonize a person for the victimless crime of smoking and or licking crack?

Trump wasn't in office for decades. That's why it blows my mind about the people who are apoplectic over Trump, since it is impossible that he was responsible for at least 99% of our nation's problems.

So if the FBI just testified that the contents of the laptop are authentic, then the emails where Hunter was peddling influence are authentic. When is Hunter being prosecuted for that and Joe impeached? The gun and tax charges are smoke and mirrors. Yeah he's guilty of those for sure, but the major crimes will be hidden and ignored.

What crimes are you referring to? I'd be surprised if he wasn't involved in any shady dealings, given his wealth, but I want to ensure that we're on the same page.
