Rand waiting on Trump to support liberty issues and candidates more

KY Sen. Rand Paul withholding Trump endorsement as top consultant works for RFK Jr.

    BY DAVID CATANESE
    MAY 29, 2024

As Donald Trump bulldozed his way to another apparent Republican presidential nomination earlier this year, considerable intrigue centered around whether Sen. Mitch McConnell would offer his public blessing to his on-again, off-again nemesis.

Now, nearing five months from Election Day, it’s Rand Paul, Kentucky’s junior senator, who is stiff-arming his party’s 2024 presumptive GOP nominee.

Close to three months after McConnell announced his support for Trump, Paul still hasn’t gotten aboard the Trump train. A Paul adviser says the senator needs to see more from Trump first.

“Rand will continue to consider endorsing, but it will be when and if he sees President Trump going more in on liberty issues and candidates,” the Paul adviser told The Herald-Leader. “It’s not about getting his endorsement, it’s about being boldly able to speak to liberty voters on issues.”

    Good for Rand.

But, is that a threat, so that Trump will say what he wants him to hear, until Trump (D-Opportunist) changes his mind again after he is elected?

Does Rand know anything about Trump's plan to Federalize "Stop and Frisk" and Federally BAN stuff?

Makes sense. Rand's biggest issue and battle of the past several years has been against Fauci.

No doubt Trump will do nothing on Rand's biggest issue.

    Maybe RFK Jr would.

The two appear to be strongly linked in their vaccine opinions, and Paul posted more about Kennedy than Trump on X in April, with a few posts showing his admiration.

Paul agreed with Kennedy’s challenge of the TikTok ban.

And he also seemingly agreed with Kennedy’s negative stance toward U.S. involvement in Ukraine.

But one key statement from Paul further indicates his preference for president could be murky. He posted about his appearance on Kennedy’s podcast, in which the pair talked extensively about COVID-19, the vaccine, and former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci.
Reason number 2, Trump has not announced his VP pick. How could Rand endorse Trump if he chooses a hardcore neocon like Nikki Haley or Tom Cotton?

In another post detailing his opinions of presidential candidates in January, Paul said “there’s a lot to like there” about Trump, that he was a “big fan” of the fiscal conservatism Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) exhibited, and mentioned Vivek Ramaswamy and Kennedy. The only stance he took in the post was his condemnation of former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, calling himself “never Nikki.”

And he might not. And if he doesn't, I don't know if we can really assume that's an endorsement of RFKJr. But it would certainly be a condemnation of Trump. Just because party politics.

Scoop: Rand Paul's brewing fight with Trumpworld

    Stef W. Kight
    Jun 2, 2024

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) questioned former President Trump's commitment to slashing government spending in a heated exchange with top Trump ally Russell Vought during a recent closed-door meeting, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: Paul is among a dwindling number of Republicans who've refused to publicly back the former president as the party's 2024 nominee. And those in Trump's orbit are getting antsy.

    • "There's a growing sentiment in Trumpworld that Rand can't be trusted, and it's a great disappointment," Trump ally and consultant Alex Bruesewitz told Axios.

Driving the news: Paul grilled Vought on May 22 over the Trump administration's massive spending, comparing it to Democratic administrations, according to two sources familiar with what was said in the lunch.

    • Paul said Trump's team had "no credibility" on spending, one source said.

    • During the lunch, Vought urged Republicans to kick back this year's government funding fight to 2025 — in part to allow a potential future Trump administration to use the process to slash funding, as Axios reported.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) listed a set of standards former President Donald Trump has to meet before he takes an active role and endorses the presumptive GOP nominee.
“When we have agreed, I’ve been very supportive. When we have disagreed, I’ve also disagreed with him,” Paul said in an interview with Spectrum News.
Before Paul can endorse Trump, the latter needs to be more outspoken on issues the Kentucky senator deems critical, he said.
“I think that it’s important that if he wants to get my vote and my support, wants me to be more active in this, that he’s gonna have to be more vocal on things like the lockdowns that I opposed, like the civil liberties abuses that I opposed, like the debt, which frankly has been bad under Republicans and Democrats,” according to Paul.
“So, I’m looking for a little bit more before I make a final decision.”

Paul did, however, appear to affirm his support for Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

“I’m supportive of Donald Trump,” he said. “But whether or not I take an active role, endorse, go out and campaign for him is something that’s yet to be determined.”

What are the RINO politicians giving to Trump in exchange for Trump endorsing them?

Will they be helping to ensure more "fair" elections in their states this time around?

What can Rand get for his endorsement?

I don’t blame Rand a bit. Trump needs to be more than just better than traitorous Joe. Trump needs to take a stance. Is he going to expose what happened during Covid? Is he going to appoint another warmongering ex-CIA chief or a fellow traveler of neocon John Bolton to advise him on foreign policy? Is he going to further increase the national debt, or do something to reduce it?

Yes, I still believe he is light years better than Biden, but if we don’t start going the other direction soon, we can kiss our liberty goodbye. It may already be too late.

Rand has done several interviews and this subject comes up, especially when Kudlow interviews him. It was my impression that Rand wants some guarantees about spending and fiscal sanity, and that is one thing the big spending Trump team will not entertain.
