Mike Johnson declares war on conservatives

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) supports retaliating against Republicans who oppose him, he reportedly told high-dollar donors at the swanky Four Seasons in Washington.

Johnson signaled to the high-powered group at a fundraiser on Sunday that he would support kicking members who blocked his coalition government’s legislative agenda off committees. He also said he is in favor of changing House rules – such as rules on the motion to vacate – at the end of this Congress.

His remarks come as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) gets ready to trigger a vote this week on her motion to vacate the chair, the same procedural motion which ousted Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the speakership in October last year.

Greene announced she would force the vote after what Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) calls Johnson’s “three betrayals.” Specifically, Johnson ended work being done to pass each of the 12 individual appropriations bills and passed a two-part omnibus bill overwhelmingly supported by Democrats, rammed through a reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) after casting the deciding vote to kill a warrant requirement for spying on Americans, and carried out a scheme to unlock tens of billions in Ukraine aid despite promising not to do so without addressing the border crisis.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) went as far as claiming it is he, not Johnson, controlling the House agenda.

“Even though we’re in the minority, we’ve effectively been governing as if we were in the majority because we continue to provide a majority of the votes necessary to get things done,” he told CBS. “Those are just the facts.”

Johnson has made history by working with Democrats to send legislation to the floor over the objections of conservatives within his own party.

The House also must vote to pass rules on the floor before voting on underlying legislation. As on the Rules Committee, it is incredibly rare for the minority party to vote on a rule issued by the majority.

Yet Johnson has resorted to passing legislation on the House floor with Democrat rules, effectively forming a coalition government with Democrats.

Greene’s vote is likely to be tabled by Johnson, with Jeffries and Democrat leaders vowing to save Johnson once on a motion to table. If Greene persists by forcing a vote a second time – or more – all bets are off.

He passed the "Israeli, Ukrainian support aid bill" in congress without mentioning anything on the border or border security.

While the democrats waved the Ukrainian flag in Congress.

For some reason that piano piece makes me feel like I'm gonna cry! Totally off topic, I know, but it's so moving.

What a shock that a neocon like Johnson would declare war.

I don't know anything about record before he was speaker but he seems to be a very deceitful player. There are so damn many of them.

The sonata is in three movements, in case you had not ever listened to the entire piece.

This is regarded as one of the best performances of it, from back in the 80s iirc.

He came off as a pretty solid "Christian conservative".

I have a very good friend in his district who was very supportive of him.

    Too neo-connish for me.

Then the Small Hat Club took him aside right after being appointed speaker and told him how thing were going to be.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) failed to concede to Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) after a two-hour meeting Monday in which the duo continued pressing for Johnson to resign and end his coalition government with Democrats.

Greene told reporters after the meeting that she and Massie “had a very long discussion with Speaker Johnson. We’ll be meeting with him again tomorrow based on the discussion and then I’ll have more information.”

Johnson said after the meeting that he “understand[s] the frustration. I share it. I would really like to advance much more of our conservative policy on a daily basis here. But, the reality is we are working with the smallest majority in U.S. history with a one vote margin.”

He probably never thought that would be literal. Speaker Omnibus Bible Thumper Rapturetard Chosen People First Judas Johnson.

So, is Gaetz in the doghouse now? He sure can't be feeling too good about how this panned out.

    Explain this:

Massie voted against the continuing resolution but said Tuesday it was "the least worst of a bunch of bad options." If the House bill hadn't passed, he said, it's likely that a Senate-drafted continuing resolution including a higher level of spending—mostly because of added military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, which was left out of the House measure—would have become law.

How can the Senate introduce a higher level of spending when the constitution gives the House the sole responsibility for introducing bills on spending? I do recall that was violated when Reagan was president.

I swear, I don't know how anyone can stand being in politics. Constant power struggles and all of these rules would drive me crazy. I'd want to strangle the enemy, too, because their agenda is that evil. I want to see the Freedom Caucus come straight out and say these people are communists who actively working to destroy the country. Stop sugar coating $#@!.

It's all his own fault. All he had to do was nothing. If he didn't bring up the foreign aid bill he wouldn't have to go.

Love Marjorie. She's been nothing but pleasant surprises. I'm glad she did this and I see it as a worthy shot across the bow, regardless of today's result.

Was Johnson an improvement over McCarthy?
Had the House been better to have somebody that nobody liked?
Seems the speaker has too much power.

The stupidity of the mean American... or his apathy, or perhaps both, astonishes even myself.

The pattern is so long established: nothing will change for the better; Weeye will exercise America's sphincter to ever larger size and the nitwit peons will keep complaining and demanding. Weeye will ignore them, continuing to hammer away as the wantwits cry in frustration and anguish. Weeye shall continue to laugh in their faces and they shall do nothing new to oppose us. Weeye are their Masters. They are our slaves. Weeye rule. They suck it.

Does anyone actually believe that Trump will affect changes that are anything more than superficial? I hope he does, but my expectations stand near to zero.

Nothing but blood is going to bring our calamitous circumstance to rein. And even were we to engage and emerge victorious, the collective raw, rank ignorance of the Meaner would all but guarantee that we ended up in a position nearly as bad as that against which we fought to free ourselves. Consider how the French Revolution turned out, as well as that of the Russians and Chinese, just to name three.

Meet the new Boss; same as the old Boss.

There is only one correct way: freedom. All other solutions are non-solutions.

It appears that artificial intelligence is at least slightly superior to natural stupidity.

Our words make us the ghosts that we are.

Convincing the world he didn't exist was the Devil's second greatest trick; the first was convincing us that God didn't exist.

Perhaps an electorate capable of looking at a man who appoints Epstein's next door neighbor, a guy who bought that house from Comet Trust, to a position of responsibility in his campaign and saying, you aren't going to be our Savior might be preferable to nuclear war?

Got such an electorate in your pocket?
