And just what the hell is wrong with Mr Ed?

    That's musical, witty and fun.

Also not a 70s but a 60s show that came into it's own in syndication with a great theme.

What's next? Dissing the theme for "The Addams Family"?

    I know, right?

Another great show made in the 60s but came into its own during 70s syndication. I used to crash my model trains in the manner of Gomez Addams.

My favorite episode of the sister show, "The Munsters"

Favorite 70s shows? Sanford and Son, The Waltons, Good Times, The Jeffersons, The Bionic Man, The Bionic Woman, Wonder Woman (yowza!), Charlies Angels (had the lunch box), Starsky and Hutch, The Incredible Hulk, S.W.A.T. (best theme song ever), Columbo, Kojack, Berretta, What's Happening, All In The Family, Family Affair, The Brady Brunch, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Flying Nun, The Andy Griffith Show, The Beverly Hillbillies (re-runs but I'll take it), Happy Days (watched from the first episode...stopped before it jumped the shark), Wild Kingdom, The Wonderful World Of Disney (when it was still wonderful), Green Acres (re-runs but I'll take it), I Dream Of Genie (same..and yowza!), Welcome Back Kotter, Taxi, Captain Kangaroo, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Spiderman, Speed Racer, Starblazers, Buck Rogers In The 25th Century, Battlestar Galactica, Mork and Mindy, Laverne and Shirley, Hogan's Heros (again...reruns), Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers...until I grew out of it, Electric Company, Alphabet Soup, Dr. Who (when it was still good...though I didn't discover it until the 80s so does that count?), Little House On The Prairie, that's all I can think of for now. The 1970s also had the best miniseries. (Roots, Ms. Jane Pittman, A woman called Moses, The Holocaust, Skokie, MLK, The Hiding Place). And right round 1976 they had a patriotic cartoon with a "spirit of 1776" who would come out of a grandfather clock and tell Revolutionary War Stories. (Can't think of the name of it).

    Good call.

We're all being way too bleeding yank about all this.

In the early 70s, Friday nights meant watching Let’s Make a Deal and The Odd Couple which I still think is pretty hilarious.

Saturday night meant watching The Mary Tyler Moore Show, followed by The Bob Newhart Show, and then the Carol Burnett Show.

I remember liking Mannix but I’ve watched reruns of it more recently and it’s pretty slow and kind of ridiculous. Fun Fact: There’s an episode of Mannix where some of the scenes were filmed inside the Brady Bunch house - recognizable by the orange and avocado green decor, sliding glass door, and wood paneling.

Of course, Star Trek reruns were on every evening after supper.

Kolchack came and went way too quickly.

Night Gallery seemed good at the time.

In the later 70s I liked Flash Gordon reruns - the old serial with Buster Crabbe and ‘Ming the Merciless’ - which would air along with a real old cartoon on a local public broadcasting station, channel 13. While mostly dry news and financial stuff, this channel would also show some good and weird stuff back in the 70s - science stuff and silent movies. One weekly show aired animated shorts by independent filmmakers.

I used to watch it every day after school, It came on at 4:00 PM every weekday afternoon. I watched it so much, it got to the point where I could give you the title of the episode and a brief synopsis of the plot after seeing/hearing less than 10 seconds or so of the start. I credit Star Trek for getting me into "serious" science fiction (by which I mean science fiction for science fiction audiences, rather than science fiction for general audiences). Except for the movies based on the original series, I was never able to "get into" all the spin-off stuff that came later (with a few superb exceptions such as Firefly, I've never been able to muster much interest in general-audience "sci-fi" stuff).
The era of re-runs. That's how we saw many shows. I still watch Star Trek quite often when there is nothing else on at 8pm. There is a channel that plays all of the Star Trek series every single night. TNG was also classic.

For Sci-Fi, Babylon 5, the Battlestar Gallactica reboot, and especially recently The Expanse were pretty high quality.

One of the greatest of all time. Remember when Columbo was part of a rotating group of shows? One week would be Columbo, the next McMillian & Wife and I can't recall the third one. All good.
My two daughters and I were gang-raped by some of the Newcomers. It landed us in the hospital for 3 weeks as several bones were broken. I don't blame them, it was a sexual emergency and I wasn't about to go all white privilege and deny them the release they needed, especially after being stuck in a hotel for months. I see the Newcomers as family now. They are on our side and will help us stop Trump. It is a small price to pay. Anything but Trump.

    McCloud, with Dennis Weaver.

Yes! Good memory. Dennis was the man back then. Around that time he did the scary movie of the man being chased by a semi truck.

You mean this one? Directed by Steven Spielberg no less.

That was Duel. Although it was "made for TV", it was the first feature directed by a fellow named Steven Spielberg.

And the fourth one was Banacek, with George Peppard.

Then Weaver quit, and Quincy, M.E. replaced it. That later went weekly.

Here's a little clip from 1990 which is totally relevant.

    Bob Newhart was awesome.

Wasn’t Hec Ramsey crammed in there somewhere for a little while?

Don't recall ever seeing it. Sounds interesting.

I remembered that it changed nights and became the Sunday Night Mystery Movie, or thought I did. Guess the one was added, and the other one later cancelled or something like that.

According to some anonymous source on imdb, "In the fall of 1972, NBC moved its successful Wednesday night Mystery Movie series consisting of "Columbo," "McCloud," and "McMillan and Wife" to Sunday nights and added a fourth show, "Hec Ramsey," while turning the original slot over to three new mysteries ("Banacek," "Madigan," and "Cool Million")."

Don't remember those last two, either. They don't appear to have lasted the two seasons Hec got in.
Richard Widmark played Madigan and the other starred Farentino.
