The Democratic National Committee (DNC) accused independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign and his aligned super PAC of illegal coordination, alleging he is receiving improper benefits from the group supporting his push to get his name on the ballot in all 50 states.

The complaint, filed Friday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), claims that the American Values 2024 super PAC’s practice of hiring signature-gathering vendors and assisting Kennedy in getting on the ballot in key battleground states constitutes a violation of federal election rules. The DNC cited Michigan and Illinois, which have guidelines set barring those outside of the campaign from gathering ballot signatures.

“Rather than solving this problem by raising the necessary funds consistent with federal law, Mr. Kennedy and his campaign are trying to take the short cut of having American Values 2024 perform this campaign function for him,” the complaint reads. “Put simply, to qualify for the ballot under state law, American Values 2024 must coordinate its activity with Mr. Kennedy and his campaign in a way that violates federal campaign finance laws.”

Kennedy denounced the DNC’s argument in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, claiming the Democratic Party is in a downfall.

“After the day they had yesterday, it’s understandable they’d want to put the focus on someone else,” Kennedy wrote Friday in the post. “The DNC is in no position to assert morality over anyone — they refused to have a primary and have worked against the will of the people in the past few elections. It’s sad to see the party my family built crash and burn.”

The long-shot candidate has qualified to be on the ballot in Utah and his campaign announced in January that he is eligible to appear on the ballot in New Hampshire.

In a statement to The Hill on Friday, American Values 2024 co-chair Tony Lyons said his PAC has been “working independently from the campaign in accordance with FEC precedent to get Bobby Kennedy on the ballot in 12 states.”

Lyons also accused the DNC of “rigging” elections and claimed they just wanted “to stifle any dissenting opinions” because they fear the incumbent, President Biden, can’t win “a free, open and fair election.”

“This FEC complaint is just another desperate DNC attempt to defame Kennedy, vilify him and drain his campaign funds,” he wrote. “The American people are too smart to be fooled by these political games.”

The complaint comes as Democrats are increasingly concerned about Kennedy — and other third-party candidates, such as Cornel West, or Jull Stein — taking away votes from Biden and handing former President Trump the likely GOP nominee, a win in November.

Kennedy started his Oval Office run within the Democratic primary, but switched to an independent bid in October, allowing him to also siphon some potential Trump voters during the general election.

Tim Mellon, a Trump donor and one of the biggest American Values 2024 donors, donated $15 million to the Kennedy-aligned group in 2023, according to FEC fillings.

The filings also show he handed $10 million to MAGA Inc., a Trump super PAC, which the DNC argued shows that some of the biggest Trump backers are utilizing Kennedy’s White House bid to poach votes from Biden.

I'm so not-surprised. Tying up an opponent's funding with lawfare.

Every candidate does this now. The workaround to avoid collusion claims is to post any info that is shared on a public website. It's nothing new and I suspect RFK jr will easily prevail in court.

    And they know it will.
They have learned from trying to destroy Trump and now know that in order to trick people into voting for RFK they have to do the same kind of lawfare attacks to make people trust him.

RFK is the replacement for Brandon, they will keep him in place until a replacement is impossible and then send him to hospice so all their voters will gravitate to RFK and hope he can steal enough centrists and Never Trumpers to win.

If that's true, why did they lock him out of the DNC primaries? If that's true, why is he this year's He Who Must Not Be Named?

So, they had to slap phony charges on Trump and watch his popularity go up to figure out slapping phony charges on people lets them play victim cards? Five millenia of recorded human history, and nobody figured that out before your arrogant ass did?

You really are not tall enough for this ride.
This kind of lawfare used to work wonders, even if the target ended up not being convicted he lost support among the sheeple.
Trump is not having that happen, he gets stronger because he woke up the public and they are not going back to sleep.
Now they are adapting by doubling down on Trump to try to actually convict him of something in the hopes that will help (it won't) and by throwing pulled punches at RFK to try to convince the public he is their enemy too.

And RFK sure gets a lot of publicity for being "he who must not be named".

RFK is their only viable for replacing Brandon and they are positioning him to be a threat to Trump when Brandon drops out by convincing simpletons that he isn't their choice.

Amazing how quickly you can admit the charges against Trump are all laughable. Or were? I'm not sure what new charges you think have appeared against him at all, much less anything strong enough to qualify as "doubling down". But this goofiness could stick against Kennedy, no matter how many other candidates have done and gotten away with the exact same thing.

It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out, won't it? Got your narrative prepared for when Kennedy's in jail and Trump isn't?

American Values Super PAC is the same PAC responsible for the ad that aired during the Super Bowl last night, which pasted RFK jrs image into an old JFK ad. Apparently some relatives are angry about this.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. apologized to his family members after a super PAC backing his independent bid for the White House aired a commercial during the Super Bowl on Sunday night.

“I’m so sorry if the Super Bowl advertisement caused anyone in my family pain. The ad was created and aired by the American Values Super PAC without any involvement or approval from my campaign. FEC rules prohibit Super PACs from consulting with me or my staff. I love you all. God bless you,” Kennedy wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

American Values 2024 ran a 30-second ad during the Super Bowl that heavily relied on imagery from former President John F. Kennedy’s 1960 presidential campaign. PAC co-chair Tony Lyons confirmed to The Hill that the ad, which appeared just before the halftime show, cost $7 million.

Despite Kennedy’s apology and his claim that his campaign was not involved, the ad remained pinned to the top of his X profile as of Monday morning.

Bobby Shriver, Kennedy’s cousin, had criticized the ad in a post Sunday on X.

“My cousin’s Super Bowl ad used our uncle’s faces- and my Mother’s. She would be appalled by his deadly health care views. Respect for science, vaccines, & health care equity were in her DNA. She strongly supported my health care work at @ONECampaign & @RED which he opposes,” Shriver wrote.

The super PAC has faced scrutiny in recent days after the Democratic National Committee (DNC) accused Kennedy’s campaign of illegally coordinating with the organization last week. Kennedy pushed back on the allegations in a post on X.

    $#@!ing scumbags.

Ron Paul has talked about this at length, that there are so many laws on the federal register, they can't even keep track.

It's almost impossible to stay in compliance.

They can essentially go after anyone at any time for something.

Indeed. Has anyone ever had a victory more carefully and obviously engineered than Trump 2024?

Gee everyone hates this guy and he's so senile he has to be led away from the podium. Maybe we should nominate someone else? Nah, the Party literally won't let anyone else on the primary ballot for the first time since primaries were invented.
