FWIW (Texas AG to investigate fraud):https://www.texastribune.org/2023/11...media-matters/Attorney General Ken Paxton announced an investigation Monday evening into Media Matters for possible fraudulent activity in response to the media watchdog group’s report last week that prompted companies to pull advertisements from X, the site formerly known as Twitter.
Earlier on Monday, X CEO Elon Musk filed a federal lawsuit in the Northern District of Texas against Media Matters, alleging the organization manipulated information it gathered to defame the social media company.
Paxton said his office would investigate allegations that Media Matters — which he referred to as a “radical anti-free speech organization” — had violated Texas laws protecting consumers from fraud.
“We are examining the issue closely to ensure that the public has not been deceived by the schemes of radical left-wing organizations who would like nothing more than to limit freedom by reducing participation in the public square,” Paxton said in a statement Monday evening.

X says that Media Matters "created an alternate account and curated the posts and advertising etc."
Are they saying that Media Matters actually created the objectionable content in the first place? And if I understand correctly - X examined the logs and determined that the first account to view the posts in each case was Media Matters.

This has some similarities to the tactic used to smear Ron Paul during his 2012 campaign right before the republican primary in New Hampshire - where he was expected to do well.
Remember the "China Jon" video, AKA "Jon Huntsman's Values"? Eventually (too late), there was a ton of evidence suggesting that Jon Huntsman's own daughters created the "racist" video about him and posted it on youtube under the name NHLiberty4Paul to make Ron Paul look bad, while drawing sympathy and positive attention to Huntsman. It worked.
That Friday, Saturday and Sunday before the vote, the media covered nothing but the "racist" video, stupidly pretending it was released by Paul's own campaign. Everybody and their mother couldn't wait to be interviewed to denounce the video and bad-mouth Ron Paul for the entire weekend! That Tuesday, Ron did not do as well as was expected in the supposedly libertarian state of NH.
The End Run did an investigation and checked the first account(s) to view and tweet about the video. It was a Huntsman-affilliated account, which tweeted it out to a number of neocons and other Ron Paul-haters. The media then mass-promoted the video making it go viral online as well as in the traditional media. [This very-detailed article appears not to exist anymore, nor can I find the videos with screen shots that illustrate how the scam was perpetrated.]
'China Jon' aka 'Jon Huntsman's Values'
(What a stupid, crappy video... and the media fell allover themselves pushing it!)

Sue them into oblivion.

He already admitted they are genuine screenshots obtained through electronic manipulation and presented as material that was gathered randomly. I'm pretty sure he has no idea where this will go, but I don't blame him for thinking that someone needs to put up the fight.
