Always have been.
This is war...in war there are foot soldiers and generals and then ruling classes. An almost universal perverse truth is that, in war, the foot soldiers called to actually do the fighting and dying often are very similar to each other. That scene in Braveheart where the Irish embrace at the Battle of Falkirk or the Christmas Truce of WWI are a couple of examples.
A united people against a ruling class is a powerful force.
But these are not normal times, and the people allied against me are not similar or "brothers" in any way, shape or form.
