Damn, this guy just can't retire! What a national treasure. At 93 years old, the legend is still producing! Coming out this week.

The quest for social justice is a powerful crusade of our time, with an appeal to many different people, for many different reasons. But those who use the same words do not always present the same meanings. Clarifying those meanings is the first step toward finding out what we agree on and disagree on. From there, it is largely a question of what the facts are. Social Justice Fallacies reveals how many things that are thought to be true simply cannot stand up to documented facts, which are often the opposite of what is widely believed.

However attractive the social justice vision, the crucial question is whether the social justice agenda will get us to the fulfillment of that vision. History shows that the social justice agenda has often led in the opposite direction, sometimes with catastrophic consequences.

More things are involved besides simply mistakes. All human beings are fallible, and social justice advocates may not necessarily make any more mistakes than others. But crusaders with an utter certainty about their mission are often undeterred by obstacles, evidence or even fatal dangers. That is where much of the Western world is today. The question is whether we will continue on heedlessly, past the point of no return.
"And now that the legislators and do-gooders have so futilely inflicted so many systems upon society, may they finally end where they should have begun: May they reject all systems, and try liberty; for liberty is an acknowledgment of faith in God and His works." - Bastiat

"It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere." - Voltaire

I just watched. Some of his points about the fallacy of the 60's narrative reminded me of an old thread I made years ago which didn't gather many responses. Take a look.

All anybody has to do is read one of his books and they'll win every argument they have with a leftist.

I think I've read about 14 or 15 of his books by now. Still can't "win" those arguments. But the fingers go in their ears pretty fast.

    More of the interview...

...includes a nice little rant on the federal reserve.

“Ours may become the first civilization destroyed, not by the power of our enemies, but by the ignorance of our teachers and the dangerous nonsense they are teaching our children. In an age of artificial intelligence, they are creating artificial stupidity.” ~ Thomas Sowell
“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

Just finished reading this latest book. If anyone is intimidated by reading academic texts, this is the book for you! It's extremely easy reading and very light. There are only about 130 or so pages of actual content - the rest are citations and an index.

If you've never read a Sowell book, this one is a distillation of many of his previous studies with a few new ones thrown in. Easily debunking nearly every myth of the social justice warriors.

There's a chapter demonstrating how nothing in the world is proportional - and it's idiotic to think that there will ever, or should ever, be proportional representation among groups.

There's a chapter on racial fallacies that tracks the progressive movement from blaming poor performance on genetics to blaming the larger society - as long as they can blame something other than personal decision-making.

A great one on the "Chess Pieces Fallacy" demonstrating how people react to incentives and are not just cogs in the designs of central planners.

Leading into the chapter on Knowlege Fallacies where Hayek and Friedman are heavily referenced that shows that in spite of the intellectuals' belief they hold special knowledge, that pales in comparison to the dispersed knowledge of real people and the situations they're dealing with.*

Just read it. Then you, too, will be equipped to dismantle any social justice warrior! Here's a second part from Peter Robinson:

"And now that the legislators and do-gooders have so futilely inflicted so many systems upon society, may they finally end where they should have begun: May they reject all systems, and try liberty; for liberty is an acknowledgment of faith in God and His works." - Bastiat
