Maybe a possible October "steam up" open to the public.

Really cool!
So much soul imparted by countless skilled hands.
I watched it. I like this guy. It's clear he knows steam. It's clear these amazing machines are capable of operating for hundreds of years if properly maintained. No planned obsolescence here folks.

Aliens must have come here to introduce that type of technology.
Hell, even without proper maintenance.
That engine sat in a half flooded, disused and forgotten pumphouse for decades.
In Maine, I'm part of the effort to restore MEC 470:
This one sat outside exposed to harsh Maine winters and vandals for decades as well, but it will run again.

If you all intend to put the locomotive back into service, then I think replacing the boiler is a good idea - and the practical alternative is a modern version.

You can likely retain the original boiler shell - just replace the internals including fire tubes and furnace.

Thanks for the tip, but one of the main reasons 470 was chosen was that, before it was put on static display, it had just undergone it's FRA mandatory boiler rebuild.
The smokebox and firebox had steel plates welded over them to keep out vandals, animals and the weather.
When opened and inspected it was revealed that most everything in the boiler was still in next to new condition

That's excellent. Still, I recommend contacting the company I linked as they know Porta boiler chemistry treatment (designed for traditional firetube locomotive boilers like yours).
