    Happy Shays' Rebellion Day!

Okay, it's one day late, actually - but it's the thought that counts.

Yesterday was the 237th anniversary of the first day of Shays' Rebellion.

Several years and one Constitution later, the Whiskey Rebellion would break out.

Those Federalists really knew how to throw a coup, didn’t they?

"Government ... does not exist of necessity, but rather by virtue of a tragic, almost comical combination of klutzy, opportunistic terrorism against sitting ducks whom it pretends to shelter, plus our childish phobia of responsibility, praying to be exempted from the hard reality of life on life's terms." That they did.

And isn't it amusing (in a dark-grim kind of way) that some people still try to use the Constitution as a source of arguments against taxes (while the much-vaunted "Bill of Rights" was just an afterthought tacked on as a sop to anti-Federalists)?
