Boy Scout Leaders Invite LGBTQ Advocates to Jamboree Camp

    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2...jamboree-camp/

    NEIL MUNRO 30 Jul 2023

The Boy Scouts of America scouting organization is inviting “LGBTQ” advocacy at its national jamboree camp in West Virginia.

The advocacy was applauded by LGBTQ advocate Mike De Socio in the Washington Post. “There is value in the type of place it is becoming: one where any kid, of any race or gender or sexual orientation, feels at home,” De Socio wrote.

De Socio has campaigned for an official welcome for gays and lesbians, as well as transsexuals — dubbed “transgenders”– into the national organization. That demand contradicted the organization’s original purpose of redirecting and subsuming young men’s energy to help guide them through their turbulent adolescent years and puberty.

The current welcome for chaotic sexual diversity is being offered to teenagers as the scouting movement shrinks. There were just 15,000 scouts at the 2023 jamboree compared to 40,000 at the 2013 event.

The decline comes despite the welcoming policies, not because of them, De Socio insisted:

The meager attendance reflects the weather-beaten state of the Boy Scouts of America. Though its doors are now open to kids of all gender identities and sexual orientations, fewer than ever are accepting the invitation. The organization lost nearly half of its membership between 2019 and 2020. This national event represents one of its first steps out of a generational nadir brought about by the pandemic, a sexual abuse scandal and an ensuing bankruptcy.

The BSA had barely resolved its struggle over membership policies — fully admitting gay men in 2015 and trans boys in 2017, and then [girls] in 2018 — before facing an avalanche of sexual abuse claims.

But the turmoil had an upside. Scouts within the ranks seized the moment to press for a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. A collective dubbed “Scouts for Black Lives” successfully pushed the organization to commit to a slate of projects, including a new diversity merit badge required for Eagle Scout rank.

The “sexual abuse scandal,” bankruptcy, and membership decline came after intense establishment pressure on the scouts. For example, the establishment media slammed scout leaders for excluding gays and lesbian scoutmasters — and slammed them for not excluding all predatory gays and lesbians from local leadership roles.

The Associated Press reported the subsequent damage in 2021:

Membership for the BSA’s flagship Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA programs dropped from 1.97 million in 2019 to 1.12 million in 2020, a 43% plunge, according to figures provided to The Associated Press. Court records show membership has fallen further since then, to about 762,000.

Yet the new generation of national leaders is doubling down its welcome for teenage sexual advocacy by gays and lesbians — and even by the very different, no-boundaries “queeer” and transsexual advocates — in the camps for teenagers, says De Socio:

Paige Morgan is one of the volunteers at the community space for girls. The 19-year-old from Scranton, Pa., also identifies as bisexual and has been glad to see the neighboring LGBTQ community space. “I know the people that are coming through here, like trans, nonbinary youth, the queeer youth, are having a great time seeing themselves represented in a space that they love so much, that is scouting,” she said.

The scouts face competition from organizations that follow the scouts’ original focus on teenagers’ character development.

For example, Trail Life‘s mission is “to guide generations of courageous young men to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others, and experience outdoor adventure.”

It has hundreds of groups around the nation:

The political and cultural shift in the scouts’ organization was pushed by top business leaders, many who influence outside funding for the organization.

    Breitbart News reported in 2017:

The scouting group’s board is dominated by progressive-leaning corporate executives, including Randall Stephenson, CEO of AT&T, which is now lobbying against a Texas bill to protect the sexual privacy of K-12 kids, amid pressure by transgender groups to allow boys into girls’ bathroom and shower facilities. “CEOs and top executives from more than a dozen major Dallas-based corporations — including American Airlines, AT&T and BNSF Railway — delivered letters to [GOP leaders] decrying the bathroom bill as a proposal that would “seriously hurt the state’s ability to attract new businesses, investments and jobs,” according to the Texas Tribune.

The establishment’s policy of maximizing diversity — especially via K-12 schools and immigration — is fracturing many civic groups and social norms that help ordinary young people manage their lives amid normal human pressures and the fast-changing economy.

Yeah, you fagggots are "pitching tents" at this, no doubt about it.

Boy Scouts pitch a more welcoming tent at their National Jamboree

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/bo...ee/ar-AA1eqDVE

Story by Mike De Socio • Thursday

GLEN JEAN, W.Va. — Amid the hundreds of tents erected for the Boy Scouts of America’s National Jamboree, one especially stands out — decorated with a canopy of LGBTQ Pride flags and a string of multicolored lights, its tables covered with bowls of rainbow bracelets, pronoun stickers and diversity patches.

“This is my entire world,” said 18-year-old River Capell, a scout volunteer from Northern Virginia who describes themselves as nonbinary and pansexual. Since the jamboree began last week, Capell has had plenty of company under the huge canvas. “There’s been days where there’s 2,000 kids in this tent alone. And that is just, like, absurd.”

Absurd indeed given the BSA’s traditionally conservative bent. But this first-ever affinity space for LGBTQ youth has been embraced at the gathering, as have similar spaces recognizing scouts of color and the first girls admitted by the organization.

“I've had some scouts asking genuine questions, like ‘What does it mean to be this? What does it mean to be that?’” Capell said Tuesday. “But it was all curiosity, and how do I help, rather than [hostility]. So it's all been incredibly welcoming and positive.”

It’s quite a departure from what I experienced a decade ago when I first attended a National Jamboree. I was 18 years old, a freshly minted Eagle Scout, and had yet to admit my own queeerness, even to myself. The BSA had only two months before lifted its ban on gay youth — something I was thrilled to see. But the leadership certainly was not yet ready to embrace gay members wholesale: That jamboree had no affinity tents, no rainbow patches. The scouts attending were (presumably) straight boys.

l remember being blown away by the sheer scale and swagger of the 2013 event. The lack of LGBTQ inclusion programming did not occur to me, perhaps a sign of my naiveté or internalized homophobia.

Ten years later, almost everything has changed. Capell is one of 15,000 scouts and volunteers who have descended on these rolling green hills for the 10-day gathering.

That number is a fraction of the 40,000 counted at the previous jamboree.

The BSA had barely resolved its struggle over membership policies — fully admitting gay men in 2015 and trans boys in 2017, and then cisgender girls in 2018 — before facing an avalanche of sexual abuse claims. More than 80,000 victims came forward, some alleging incidents from decades earlier. The bankruptcy proceeding that followed only concluded this spring with a $2.46 billion settlement, the largest of its kind in U.S. history.

And at this year’s National Jamboree, which ends on Friday, the BSA has for the first time created community spaces for historically excluded populations.

Part of the reason this year’s jamboree is such a milestone is because of the sheer amount of time that has passed since the last one in 2017. The event usually happens every four years, but the coronavirus forced its cancellation in 2021.

Paige Morgan is one of the volunteers at the community space for girls. The 19-year-old from Scranton, Pa., also identifies as bisexual and has been glad to see the neighboring LGBTQ community space. “I know the people that are coming through here, like trans, nonbinary youth, the ***** youth, are having a great time seeing themselves represented in a space that they love so much, that is scouting,” she said.

The changes remain somewhat polarizing, reflecting the broader cultural moment that has pitted champions of diversity and inclusion against conservatives and the religious right. People who applaud the organization’s embrace of the LGBTQ community see it as a long-overdue sort of reparation after years of exclusion and court battles. Others consider it a diversion that threatens scouting’s core values and religious underpinnings.

It was hard to detect any kind of tension this week. As I strolled through the community spaces, I witnessed only excitement and curiosity. The tents — offering free merch, panel discussions and guidance for scouts on “how to be an ally”— appeared more popular than the Methodist and Mormon tents down the gravel lane.

The prototype for the programming was unveiled last year at the National Order of the Arrow Conference in Knoxville, Tenn. — a far smaller event geared toward what the BSA calls its “honor society.” I served as a volunteer at that conference, staffing a space called “ArrowPride” that welcomed LGBTQ attendees. From the moment we opened the doors, a stampede of youth overwhelmed us.

The jamboree has been much the same, according to Capell, who has been particularly surprised by the large groups of boys who have stepped into the LGBTQ tent. “All of them have been super cool … all put wristbands on.”

The empathetic vibe is a stark change from the last jamboree in 2017, which made headlines for all the wrong reasons when then-President Donald Trump spoke at one of the big nightly programs. It is common for commanders in chief to be featured guests, but not so common for them to seize the podium as if they were at a political rally: Trump mocked the “fake news media” and his former Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, and bragged about his recent electoral victory. The BSA issued a formal apology for his comments.

There was no worry about a presidential appearance in 2023; the evening shows have been notably absent, replaced instead by a rotating schedule of “base camp bashes” that feature casual DJ sets.

Still, passing cliques of brightly shirted youth, I couldn’t shake the feeling that, despite all the positive milestones, the event was lacking. I remember the 2013 jamboree as a crush of people on every trail, in every activity, under every tent.

The optimist in me wants to see this summer as a reset of sorts for the BSA — a necessary contraction before a hard-won resurgence. Even if the organization never manages to regain its golden-age scale, there is value in the type of place it is becoming: one where any kid, of any race or gender or sexual orientation, feels at home.

Capell is hopeful that this momentum can continue outside the spotlight of the culture wars threatening social justice efforts in other areas of American life: “Since we're starting to move in this direction, I think because we're scouts, there is a sense of willingness to change.”

Mike De Socio is a queeer journalist based in Upstate New York and author of the forthcoming book “Morally Straight: How the Fight for LGBTQ Inclusion Changed the Boy Scouts — And America.”

    Lying $#@!.

You and your "allies" accomplished just what you set out to do, destroyed one of the last places young boys could be guided into manhood and turned it into nothing more than a gay bathhouse in the woods, perfect places for the grooming, abuse of a new generation of weirdosexuals and, oh yeah, a place to cruise for some underaged ass.

Because there is no path to manhood any more, your legacy, for the scores of young men that rejected your desired path of sexual buggery and "transition" into queeerness, is a lifetime of dysfunction, depression and death.

    Leave. The. Kids. Alone.

You fagggots are going to $#@! around one time too many with the kids, and you're going to find out.

That organization has been corrupted for a couple of decades now, at minimum. It's unfortunate because it used to be an excellent youth program. But this is what the Marxists do.

Yes it is, that is what they do and that is what they are...wreckers.

My son achieved his Eagle Scout rank just before it all went completely to $#@! about 5 or 6 years ago I guess.

He gets visibly agitated at $#@! like this.

I made Eagle in 2000 and it still makes me angry. The organization has essentially been destroyed.

There was an offshoot created a few years back called Trail Life, but the problem was they overreacted and that they were a bit too theocratic IMO and were essentially turning it into church camp. There has got to be a happier medium in there somewhere.

You would think, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Try finding a private school without religion... It's either a formal religious school or a wokism mess. Seems like there would be a ready market for just non-secular common sense, but it's hard to find. I guess the absence of organized religion opens the door to a whole new kind of cult religion. Almost like people can't function without a moral belief system binding them together.

Boy Scout Movement Now Trans-Friendly ‘Authentic Self’ Group

    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2...ic-self-group/

    NEIL MUNRO 7 May 2024

The Boy Scouts of America is changing its 114-year-old name, according to a statement from the tech sector CEO who runs the fabled organization, in what seems to be a bid to deny the reality that boys are different from girls.

The new sexually-neutral name –“Scouting America” — will send “a really strong message to everyone in America that they can come to this program, they can bring their authentic self,” said Roger Krone, the organization’s president and CEO.

Krone’s “authentic self” phrase matches language used by transgender activists who oppose the public recognition that boys and girls, women and men, have different needs and desires. The pro-transgender activists insist that young children can create their individual sexual persona and “gender,” regardless of their male or female nature.

“They can be who they are, and they will be welcomed here,” added Krone, who until recently was the chief of Leidos, a consulting company in defense and healthcare. The scouting organization’s National Executive Board also includes other business leaders.

Krone suggested that the organization’s focus on boys hinders recruitment at a time when more young boys are spending their time glued to semi-addictive social media machines.

The scouting organization was created in 1910 to encourage urban boys to channel their physical energy into hiking and camping. The focus recognized that young boys are different from young girls, and it proved highly successful as urban parents wanted their boys to build competence and confidence.

But times changed, and the organization accepted gay boys in 2013, validated gay leaders in 2015, and welcomed girls in 2018. The Associated Press reported on May 7:

After a high point over the last decade of over 2 million members in 2018, the organization currently services just over 1 million youths, including more than 176,000 girls and young women. Membership peaked in 1972 at almost 5 million.

The organization’s decision to ignore the differences between boys and girls was cheered by some adults. The AP reported:

Within days of the announcement that girls would be allowed, Bob Brady went to work. A father of two girls and a proud Eagle Scout himself, the New Jersey attorney eagerly formed an all-girls troop. At their first weekend gathering with other troops, the boys were happy to have the girls involved but some adult leaders seemed concerned, he recalled. Their worries seemed to melt away as soon as the girls led a traditional cheer around the campfire.

“You could see a change in the attitude of some of the doubters who weren’t sure and they realized, wait, these kids are exactly the same, they just happen to have ponytails,” said Brady. His daughters are among the 13 girls in his troop and the 6,000 girls nationwide who have achieved the vaunted Eagle Scout rank. [emphasis added]

Krone doubled down on the ideological claim that there are no significant differences — often described as “gender differences” — between the two complementary and cooperating sexes.

“Though our name will be new, our mission remains unchanged: we are committed to teaching young people to be Prepared. For Life,” Krone said in a statement. “This will be a simple but very important evolution as we seek to ensure that everyone feels welcome in Scouting.”

“Membership is at historic lows, right?” he told the AP. “Part of my job is to reduce all the barriers I possibly can for people to accept us as an organization and to join.”

Krone also suggested that scouts should respect each other, regardless of motives and merits. “Scouting America provides a welcoming, safe environment where youth can become the best version of themselves by learning from and respecting each other,” he added in the statement.

However, the scouts’ long-standing recognition of competition among boys and sexual distinctions between boys and girls has been an attraction for millions of young boys who preferred to avoid female company, oversight, and conflict.

Moreover, very few young boys claim to be transgender, suggesting that the group will gain few new members from the transgender-friendly policy.

The eclipse of the Boy Scouts was touted by journalists eager to celebrate its new “inclusive” nature denying the popular and useful recognition that men and women — and boys and girls — are equal, different, and complementary.
