Transgender activists protest at women’s rally with ‘arm trans kids’ poster
Story by Alex Barton • Yesterday 2:23 PM

Masked trans activists on Sunday rallied behind a banner saying “arm trans kids” to counterprotest a women’s rights event.

Uniformed police marshalled the scene to prevent the clash descending into violence in London’s Hyde Park.

Transgender activists confronted gender-critical Let Women Speak advocates leading to the standoff, with officers positioning themselves between the two factions.

Trans rights demonstrators prominently displayed signs proclaiming “arm trans kids” and “trans joy will outlive you all”.

Additionally, one banner held by protesters who obscured their faces with umbrellas, read: “Terfs off our turf, defending trans lives.”

Members of Let Women Speak wore bright pink high visibility vests and formed a linked line while facing off the counterprotesters.

The Met Police confirmed that three arrests had been made during the incident and investigations were ongoing.

A police spokesperson said: “Police are present and engaging with multiple protest groups at Hyde Park, and a proportionate policing plan is in place.”

One individual posted on social media, saying: “The trans rights activists are looking a lot more dangerous and intimidating today.”

Let Women Speak events, hosted by women’s rights campaigner Kellie-Jay Keen, take place in Hyde Park on the final Sunday of every month.

In April police had to separate gender-critical and pro-trans protesters during a rally organised by Keen in London.

The most recent clash came in the wake of revelations by the Telegraph that a trans lobby group was involved in drafting NHS plans for treating gender-questioning children.

Susie Green, the former chairman of the charity Mermaids, participated in a task group responsible for reviewing services at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation transgender clinic.

Details from the service specification, which outlines treatment for children, revealed that “hormone blockers will now be considered for any children under 12”.

The relationship between Mermaids and senior NHS employees was disclosed for the first time through documents obtained by the Telegraph.

The papers demonstrate that Ms Green had direct communication with Dr Polly Carmichael, the director of Tavistock.

300 pages of documents
While Tavistock claimed to lack email or meeting records with Ms Green, it eventually released over 300 pages of documents after facing legal action from the information regulator.

The documents revealed Ms Green’s advisory role in two studies investigating the long-term effects of gender identity, despite her lack of formal medical training.

The service specification, still accessible on the NHS England website, was originally set to be replaced in 2020 but was put on hold when the government initiated an independent review of the clinic known as the Cass Review.

The Tavistock stated: “Like many NHS services gender identity development service works with a range of third-sector patient support groups and charities that have different views about how the service can improve.”

Mermaids emphasised its focus on supporting the mental and physical wellbeing of trans and non-binary young people throughout the UK. Ms Green, acknowledging her involvement in the service specification, stated that it was not a secret.

An NHS spokesperson confirmed that it has begun implementing recommendations from Dr Cass and conducted a public consultation on a new interim service specification, which will be published in the coming weeks.
