We have long had death and taxes as the two standards of inevitability. But there are those who believe that death is the preferable of the two. "At least," as one man said, "there's one advantage about death; it doesn't get worse every time Congress meets."

Is there any reason but naiveté to think the same thing isn't happening in the other direction?

Grade-school civics-class textbook fantasies concerning "fair and impartial" juries (among many other similarly comforting fairy tales) are all well and good - but that's not how things work in the real world (especially relative to the hyper-hysterical environment in which we've all been steeped for almost the last decade).

Just as for the last two presidential elections, no matter the outcome of this trial (or the others), a substantial and significant number of people are going to reject it as biased, invalid, and (further) proof of perfidy.

Considering the ideology of people today, I don't know if less children is a bad thing.
I think for 50 years or more responsible people that paid their own way had children they could afford and poverty stricken people on the dole had larger families to keep the entitlement benefits flowing their way.
I guess my point is there are many people that are not qualified to be parents.
My guess is that the entitlement birthing mothers are still pushing out their quotas, and responsible, capable, intelligent men, are on the sidelines because the sane, responsible, capable, female, is near extinction.
So we end up with a worse class of citizens and the gene pool is diluted even farther.

In and of itself, that tweet is rather misleading. The jury has to reach unanimous agreement on whether or not Trump falsified business documents to cover up a predicate crime. What the predicate crime was is what Merchan told them they could disagree on, as long as they have unanimous agreement that there was some crime that an attempt was being made to cover up. I tend to disagree with Merchan on that; but I'm not conversant in the law on this. If the law is wishy-washy on whether the jury has to agree on the predicate offense, then I think there would be grounds to appeal a conviction (I can't imagine that the law would delve into jury instruction). It also strikes me that if there were more than a single predicate offense, then separate counts would have been brought against Trump for each of those predicate offenses.

I'm really surprised that SNL, Jon Stewart, Bill Maher or some other comedian didn't seize on a response to that straight line. We're talking about a porn actress here; the judge would need to have some pretty impressive equipment to gag her. But if Stormy was the one posing the question, then she probably already has the inside scoop on that.

Is Congress's $17 million sexual misconduct hush money fund campaign finance violations?

Rep. Thomas Massie highlights that Congress's hush money payments would be considered campaign finance violations under Alvin Bragg's novel theory used to target President Trump.

"Congress has paid over $17 million in hush money for sexual misconduct inside of the offices in these buildings. And what's more, is that it was taxpayer money. The allegation is that President Trump paid $130,000 of his own money.

But here in Congress, there might be some here on this dais who had the taxpayer pay for their sexual misconduct charges. And I do know that not a single penny of it has been turned in as a campaign finance expense."

Former FEC Commissioner Trey Trainor explains that Alvin Bragg's novel interpretation of the law does not align with "normal campaign finance law."

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey points out that the Trump verdict will likely be overturned after the 2024 election, citing constitutional violations, due process issues, and prosecutorial misconduct.

To which @RepThomasMassie responds, "The irony here is that this trial was all about trying to influence the [2024] election."

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) led 28 Senate Republicans in sending a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland condemning the evisceration of the American judicial process and the conviction of former President Donald Trump in Manhattan.

You can read the letter HERE and below.

    “Dear Mr. Attorney General:

“The conviction of President Trump in Manhattan is nothing short of the evisceration of the American judicial process. In their zeal to imprison Donald Trump, Democrat prosecutors successfully dissolved the constitutional protections afforded to defendants and the barriers that protect every American from the abuses of arbitrary rule.

“Among the casualties of this case are the concepts of due process, hitherto guaranteed to Americans by the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, as well as the Sixth Amendment right to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation. Due process requires that a defendant be given notice, the opportunity to be heard, and a neutral decision-maker. Even if we disregard Judge Juan Merchan’s financial contributions to Democratic candidates and causes, the prosecutors were permitted to convert alleged time-lapsed business records misdemeanors into felonies because the records violations were supposedly in furtherance of a second crime. Yet, even after the jury rendered its verdict, we do not know what constitutes that specific second crime.

“Due process cannot exist when the defendant is accused of a secret crime. No American – not even a President – can defend himself fairly in a court of law if he is deprived of his Sixth Amendment right to know what crime he is alleged to have committed.

“The Biden Administration is complicit in the destruction of due process of law. The elusive crimes for which Donald Trump has neither been charged with nor convicted of could include Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) violations. Alvin Bragg, a New York State prosecutor, has no jurisdiction to enforce federal election law and the federal government would never tolerate a state prosecutor infringing upon its FECA jurisdiction – unless the defendant is Donald Trump. Rather than call out prosecutors for carrying out the political persecution of Donald Trump, President Biden defended the case.

“We condemn this show trial, not just because it marks the attempt to imprison a leader of the loyal opposition, but because it threatens the existence of due process of law, without which a constitutional republic dedicated to the protection of individual liberty is not possible.”

Dr. Paul is joined in sending the letter by U.S. Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Rick Scott (R-FL), Roger Marshall (R-KS), John Cornyn (R-TX), Tim Scott (R-SC), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Marco Rubio (R-FL), James Lankford (R-OK), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), JD Vance (R-OH), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Ted Budd (R-NC), John Thune (R-SD), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), Katie Britt (R-AL), Mike Braun (R-IN), Ted Cruz (R-TX), John Hoeven (R-ND), Deb Fischer (R-NE), and Josh Hawley (R-MO).

    {Attorney General Andrew Bailey @AGAndrewBailey | 03 July 2024}

BREAKING: I have filed suit against the State of New York for hijacking the presidential election by illegally scheming to jail their presidential opponent, President Trump.

New York is waging war on American Democracy — and Missouri will not let it stand.

    [...]

New York’s illicit prosecution, gag order, and sentencing of President Trump has undermined his ability to campaign.

This overt meddling in a presidential election sabotages Missourians’ ability to cast a well-informed vote mere months before the election.

I am asking the Supreme Court to declare that New York’s actions unlawfully interfere with the presidential election, to remove any gag orders against President Trump, and to halt the impending sentencing until after the presidential election.
