Thread: What is going on here?

    What is going on here?

In the past two weeks I have been very openly propositioned on a couple of social sites for time with hookers.

I have no problem whatsoever with prostitution, in sé. But it is illegal in most places, fie on those places all, and yet these people are openly soliciting. Naturally, the real game is fraud. I like to play along with these dopey amateurs just to yank their chains, so I express my interest and they immediately ask me to send them $40 or $100 via zelle, etc., in exchange for their physical addresses for some fukky-sukky time. This, of course, seems very amateurish operations, but they must be meeting with some success or else they'd not be doing it.

Then there are the photos, GIFs, and short reels of them diddling themselves, etc., which again I could care less about, but what if there are children around? They have to learn about it some day, true, but if I'm a parent it is I who decide when and how.

Anyone know what is going on here? I've never been approached like this until about two weeks ago and I remain a mite perplexed by the sudden onset and now the frequency. To listen to them go on, my hose is become very popular, which of course is understandable, but still...

Oh, and FB goes on endlessly about their "community standards" and I am always in jail, as I am right now, yet apparently soliciting pay to pork is OK.

And there is one more weird one. Someone msgs me saying how her friend "Susan" is so into me and would like to meet me. Sniffing yet another scam, I play along because I am a big giant $#@! who likes to $#@! with people who are precisely stupid enough to think they can pull it over on people like myself. So I give her one of my dog-pile email addresses just to see what happens. Sure enough, someone claiming to be "Susan Fedrick" sends a note in less-than-colloquial english, replete with photos of a very fetching young woman. Nothing pornographic, just a very pretty girl. So we exchange some lines, but I'm reserved and she's going on about herself and calling me "dear" and telling me my face is beautiful, whci of course it is, but how would she know without a photo?

So then she goe dark on me, about a week now, yet her "friend" on FB, "Mary", keeps asking whether we've gotten together, so on and so forth. I'm not getting this approach at all. They must either be far more intelligent than myself, or really bad at this extortion game, or whatever the angle may be.

Have any of you had anything like these sorts of experiences? Lately? I'm just trying to figure why now, why so suddenly, and why like a floodgate has been opened.

Welcome to the modern internet. Click on the wrong article, and they peg you with a related marketing attack. They also do it via tracking IP addresses. Someone using the internet in your house looks up recipes for pulled pork, before long everyone using your internet is getting recipes in the ads.

In your example, standard internet catfishing scam. They pull in desperate people. Eventually it turns to needing money for an operation or something.

In addition to the other replies, another point to consider is stings. I think that a lot of the digital tyranny that has taken over the world is justified in the name of "stopping" every kind of social ill. Of course, they're facilitating the very thing they claim to be "stopping". We are rapidly approaching a singularity where every single interaction in the public sphere (including the Internet) is going to be nothing but non-stop jail-baiting. I've been watching this unfold for almost 10 years now, and I don't know how much longer until the fever breaks. We've built a social order that runs on "dirt" and so manufacturing dirt on people is the single most valuable line of work. Based on what I've been seeing over the last 10 years, I strongly doubt that prostitution exists as a profession as we once understood it. Stated another way, they're all just cops in high-heels and mini-skirts now.

As an anti-government type you may have been targeted for entrapment on a CP or diddling a minor charge.
It's also possible it is just a regular "you wouldn't want your wife to know" blackmail operation.

Avoid these offers and those making them as if your life depends on it. (whether you believe there is a threat to your soul or not)

I'd not really considered that angle, mainly because I can think of few greater wastes of time and effort, not to mention the entrapment aspect. But given the levels of general Stupid that now predominates, this makes some sense, sorry to say.

Some of these were definitely bots, though. One, once it became cleaer I was not going to come across with an online donation, tole me to $#@! off "Nigga", and so forth, at which point I felt compelled to mock their ham-fisted stupidity. About an hour later the exact same account accosted me again, seeming to indicate either a bot or some brain damaged idiot on the other end.

It's all gone boring after about an hour or so of this nonsense, so I'm just ignoring them... or telling them I will find them and do unspeakably cruel things to them, which I would not bother, but if real people are on the other side, meh... maybe it gives them something to think about, assuming they think at all.

What those dweebs don't realize is that nobody runs me. Nobody has what it takes to wrench me, so they waste their time.

One of my solutions for dealing with spam calls is to answer with "E911, what is your emergency?" I get instant clicks, and lately lots of "Oh, I'm sorry, I 'll have to write this down..." I did, however, once get an interesting fear response from the spammer, some dope from India whose accent betrayed "Kevin". After giving the what's your emergency line, "Kevin got all cheeky. I maintaine character and told him he was in violation of federal law and that I had discretion to sic the feds on him, all very deadpan. Kevin went all native on me with plenty of "$#@! you" and so forth, his accent having then come out strongly. It was pretty amusing for a few seconds. I hiung up on him, which I'm sure frosted his cake pretty well.

Interestingly, I was getting 20 to 50 calls per day on my cell, so I registered a complaint with T-mobile and they pointed me to a spam killer they wrote. I installed it and the calls stopped instantly.

Avoid these offers and those making them as if your life depends on it. (whether you believe there is a threat to your soul or not)
Generally I do, but the sudden rise and blatant nature of the solicitations caught me a bit by surprise, so my inner $#@! felt compelled to yank their chains. One of them, I told them that they should be relieved that I was already bored with them, implying the risk of world-ending consequences for them otherwise, in the spirit of Jeff Dahmer.

Anyhow, I'm returned to ignore mode, but the root causes of this sudden turn still puzzles me.

I wouldn't read too much into it. They're just blasting everything with a giant shotgun at this point. They don't have enough Jan 6-style ammo, so they're turning over every single stone, peeking into every single nook&cranny for fresh dirt. Surely, there is smoking-gun evidence of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy® buried somewhere out there! Catching people on petty charges and plea-dealing them if they'll make a false public "confession" to being part of the conspiracy to "Undermine Democracy" is one way to manufacture it. These people are psychotic crooks.

Don't know who this guy is, but he's not very good at what he does. Get to the friggin' point with fewer words. He is clearly padding for revenue's sake. Therefore, he sucks.

Not reading anything into it, just expressing my perplexity. They've been scatter-gunning this sort of crap forever and I've always been off-limits, until now. Just wondering what's changed. Could be, as you seem to suggest, that they are simply extending the radius.

My elderly parents have landed on some scammer's war dial list, and they have received three calls all in a similar vein, that go something like this:

Incoming caller identifies as a close relative (one was me, one, my son and once, my dad's distant nephew) who is in trouble with the law, serious traffic wreck, drug arrest something like that. They feign an injury or illness to cover the voice differences.

In every case they are looking for a large cash payment to what looks like a legitimate bail bondsman.

Thankfully my (step) dad is still pretty sharp, as well as nasty as cat $#@! when he wants to be and was able to suss out the scam before it went too far by asking a question that blew the charade out of the water.

Example: "Did you call Uncle so and so. He'd be able to help you out of a bind like this."

Scammer: "Yeah I called Uncle so and so, but he said to call you, that he couldn't help right now."

Old Man: "Uncle so and so has been dead for 40 years you filth, foul, filthing fouler!!!"

I don't know how or why these started, or the origin, but they seem to be increasing, so give your friends and family a heads up.

We devised a "code" phrase for all close family members to use, the same thing we had on my ship as part of the security plan.

An innocuous phrase only known to us, that will identify the caller and situation as being legit.

I'm on Fakebook, but often use it as a political platform. The big scam I see is stunning women with fake profiles. You know they're fake because all they have are model pics and nothing else. You can tell they just go to sites like Model Mayhem and steal pics. I have to laff at all the guys who compliment them, sending big giant hearts and kisses.

Gullibility isn't just for old people. So many fall for this crap. But most scammers are lazy and have lame scams. I messed with some scammers for awhile. I got one guy to send me three Fed Ex envelopes at 20 bucks a clip. I incessantly mocked him for wasting $60. I was thinking about trying to reverse the scam and make a few bucks, but it got boring pretty quick.
