Reports there were five on the bomber, all Confederate Air Force.* The Bell was a single seater. Apparently they were attempting to create a formation.

    * I'm showing my age. They changed the name to Commemorative Air Force

    "Was that meant to happen?"
It's all about taking action and not being lazy. So you do the work, whether it's fitness or whatever. It's about getting up, motivating yourself and just doing it.

geeze.... I am not interested in flying in formation.... ever.... and this is exactly why... besides the fact that the guys flying these things are probably much better pilots than I am

Not just the loss of life, but the total loss of two unreplaceable pieces of history.

Another angle, shows that view from P-63 was obscured, didn't see B-17 under it

How tragic. Thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims.

Best analysis I've found to date. There's also some talk that the fighter had fallen behind, and the air boss had told him to catch up, even overfly the bomber. The fighter looks like it lost altitude in that final turn. No doubt the air boss expected him to maintain height.

Was visible on approach,, was buzzing TOO Close.. not sure if planned or just error.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.
