‘Complete and Total Disaster:’ Ford Electric Truck Utterly Fails YouTuber’s Towing Test

    https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2022/...s-towing-test/

    ALANA MASTRANGELO 27 Sep 2022

A YouTuber with 1.4 million followers attempted to tow a 1930 Ford Model A truck with his brand new 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck, but it ended in “a complete and total disaster.” “If a truck towing 3,500 pounds can’t even go 100 miles — that is ridiculously stupid,” Tyler “Hoovie” Hoover says in his video. “This truck can’t do normal truck things. You would be stopping every hour to recharge, which would take about 45 minutes a pop, and that is absolutely not practical.”

“This is my new 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck,” YouTuber Tyler “Hoovie” Hoover said in a video in which he tests the electric truck’s towing capabilities, which resulted in “a complete and total disaster.”

    Watch Below:

For his experiment, Hoover planned to simply drive the EV truck with an empty trailer in tow only 32 miles away, and then load up a 1930 Ford Model A pickup truck he recently bought, so that he could tow it back the same way he came.

“My plan was to make two trips up today,” he said. “About 32 miles each way, so that’s about 64 times two: 128 miles round trip.”

“I had this thing charged to just over 200 miles when I started my day, so ample margin for error when it comes to range and towing and also considering the fact that the trailer was going up empty two times,” Hoover added.

After attaching the empty aluminum trailer to his truck and “pulling out my neighborhood,” which was just about a quarter of a mile away, the EV had already lost three miles of range. By the time Hoover got to his location 32 miles away, the vehicle had lost a staggering 68 miles of range.

Once he loaded up the Model A truck and drove it back to his neighborhood, Hoover “got the driving range low warning,” and saw that he only had 50 miles of range left, despite charging the EV for 200 miles at the start of his 64-mile round trip.

“Are you kidding me? That’s almost 90 miles of range in 30 miles. Are you serious? That’s nuts. What a joke,” Hoover reacted.

“So, yeah, that was abysmally bad, and if the future is electric, there has to be some kind of solution for this,” he said. “I have no idea why EVs tow so bad. My guess would be it doesn’t have a normal transmission where there’s gears and a car’s in a lower rev range.”

“If a truck towing 3,500 pounds can’t even go 100 miles — that is ridiculously stupid,” Hoover continued. “This truck can’t do normal truck things. You would be stopping every hour to recharge, which would take about 45 minutes a pop, and that is absolutely not practical.”

Hoover concluded by saying, “The F-150 Lightning is more like a truck that most people use their trucks for, just to get around A to B, and not really using it to do truck things.”

“They just want something big and comfortable, and it does great at that, but as far as doing truck things, well so far just with towing, not good,” he said.

This is the same (probably even worse) in the US. Direct Current Fast Charging is VERY expensive with current load factors. My team has done the calculations that show with the current usage on these things, the "break-even" cost of charging at these speeds is equivalent to about $14 per gallon of gas. And that's just for operations. It says nothing about the ability to recoup the initial investment which can easily top $100-150K per charger.

But that's the unsubsidized cost. There are a myriad of incentives and grants for the construction AND operations of these things. And YOU are paying for them.

And guess what? As they put more and more of these out there, it ensures that the load factors remain low, since drivers will have more choices of which station to use. You'd need these things to be in operation more than 60% of the time in order to be profitable. But think about that... there are 24 hours in a day and you'd need a car at each charger for 14 hours and 24 minutes each day. (then, you could spread out the demand charges among many users) But even if you had a line of cars waiting to charge all day, you'd lose some time just moving the vehicles around. And if you pull up to a charger that someone else is already using, are you really going to wait 20 minutes until they're done before charging your own car for another 20 minutes?? Nope - these things will NEVER hit the requisite load factors. Charging companies consistently lose money on fast charging - but they offset those losses with investor dollars, government subsidies, and selling data.

But that's fast charging - most charging is done at home which is far cheaper. Some EV drivers may NEVER even use a fast charger. You'd think the market will eventually charge a significant premium for that service, but they're afraid of scaring off potential EV buyers.

HOWEVER... This conversation is never really complete unless you consider the subsidies that we all enjoy at gas pumps. The entire world economy is based off the petrodollar and is enforced through your tax dollars and debts. So, if you're opposed to the EV subsidies, it's best to remain consistent. If it weren't for the oil subsidies, the price at the pump would be much higher, too.

That answered a question I had.

So, the fast chargers are DC and I'm assuming 800 volts?

That takes 480 three phase to run an inverter at that amperage and voltage, correct?

So, I'm not completely sure of the output, but yes, the input is 480V 3-phase power which is converted to Direct Current. The Level 2 chargers that are in people's homes or at "destination"-type locations only require single-phase, but charge much slower. Those chargers can be economical with a much lower usage rate.

A hurricane is bearing down on Florida, which means the possibility of hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people may need to flee Florida. Some of them may not get very far . . . if their vehicle of choice is an EeeeeeeeeVeeeee.

Tesla owners might be the allotted a bit more range, courtesy of the beneficence of Elon the Divine – via “over the air updates” that temporarily allow their Teslas’ batteries to absorb more range, perhaps enough to get out of the path of the hurricane.

But not even Elon the Divine can send electricity over the air – something that the actual Tesla (as in Nikola) was working on. That means the EeeeeeeeVeeeees will go no farther than the electricity they aleady have stored in their battery packs, if the electricity goes down.

That is something that tends to happen when a hurricane comes to town.

Even if the power doesn’t go down, the lines are sure to queue up as EeeeeeeVeeee owners descend upon “fast” chargers to wait their turn to wait the 30-45 minutes it takes to instill a partial (80 percent) “fast” charge in an EeeeeeeeVeeeeee. Which, of course, leaves them down 20 percent as far as the range they would have had if they got a full charge. Which they can get, of course, if they’re prepared to wait considerably longer than the 30-45 minutes it takes to instill an 80 percent “fast” charge at a trickle charge . . . unless they’re willing to risk damage to their EeeeeeeeeVeeeeee’s battery.

    Or a fire.

So, if an EeeeeeeeeVeeeee can supposedly go say 250 miles on a full charge, it actually only goes about 200 miles on an 80 percent “fast” charge. That may be just enough range to clear the path of the hurricane bearing down in the rearview mirror . . . assuming it’s not too hot out and you don’t turn on the car’s AC. If it is – and you do – that 200 miles of 80 percent range might prove to be 150 miles – and not enough to get you out of harm’s way.

It’ll be even less – a lot less – if the EeeeeeeVeeeee is pulling anything behind it, like a trailer full of your stuff. Even if it is a mighty EeeeeeeeVeeeee pick-up such as Ford’s Lightning, which advertises the ability to pull a very heavy trailer. What’s not advertised is how not-far the Lightning can tow it. Several reviewers have posted alarming video reviews detailing what happens when even a light (6,000-8,000 lb.) trailer is hitched to an EeeeeeVeeeee pickup like the Lightning. In one case, the range drooped to just 80 miles. In which case, if a hurricane is on your tail, you might as well never have left home.

You won’t end up far from it, any rate.

EeeeeeVeeeee apologists will say this is an in extremis case – and that’s true.

But it’s also true that in such as case, a truck with a full tank could put 500 miles between it and a hurricane, pulling a trailer full of your stuff.

It is also true that if the power goes down, you can keep on going – if you aren’t driving an EeeeeeeeeVeeeee. If you had the sense to fill up a couple of five-gallon jugs before the power went out. Even one five gallon jug will take the typical car around 150 miles – and it does not take 30-45 minutes to pour it into the tank. Many gas stations also have back-up diesel generators to keep the pumps working. “Fast” chargers for EeeeeeeeVeeeeees are totally dependent upon grid power. If it goes down, you cannot “fast” charge an EeeeeeeVeeee. The best you can hope to do is use a portable generator to trickle-charge it – and that will take hours (plus the gas).

All of this would be hilarious if it weren’t so serious.

In particular as regards the fact that EeeeeeeVeeeeees are not merely the Fool’s Car – all the consequences of being fooled borne by the fools who buy them. That would be a case of caveat emptor – and a learning experience.

Many would not get fooled again.

Not-so-funny is the fact that we’re all being herded into EeeeeeeVeeeees – by people who think we are fools. Who mean to let us in on the gag once the joke’s already been cracked.

A joke that’ll be on us – with them doing all the laughing.

If you thought the wait in line to get a rental car at the airport was bad, wait until you try renting an electric car.

Unless,of course, you don’t mind paying extra for it.

A reader sent along the details of a Hertz EeeeeeeVeeeee rental agreement that details the new regime. Some of the particulars may be of interest. The contract reads:

“You are required to return the EV with a minimum charge of 10%. You are responsible to maintain a sufficient charge on the EV during your rental. You will be responsible for the cost of any tow if the EV is not drivable due to a low battery. You are not authorized to call a private tow on Hertz’ behalf. All tows of the EV must be by flatbed and must be arranged through Hertz Emergency Roadside Assistance.”

This is worse than it sounds. Much worse, that is, than it was – as regards the usual rental car “catch” of being dunned Top Dollar for not bringing the car back with the same amount of gas in the tank it had when you picked it up.

For one, because it’s more likely you will be dunned for “returning the EV with less than a minimum charge of 10 percent” – because you may not have time to wait to chareg it. You are already running late for your flight – maybe because of traffic – and know you have to get to the gate an hour before your flight, another wait – courtesy of the Homeland Security regime. Previously, you could almost always find the less than five minutes it took (past tense) to quickly top off the rental before dropping it off and so avoid paying $5 per gallon for every $2.50 gallon you forgot to refill.

With an EeeeeeeeVeeeeee that is not possible because it is impossible to quickly top-off an EeeeeeeVeeeee – even at a “fast” charger. And it’ll be even slower if you can’t find one or someone else is plugged in ahead of you.

“You are responsible to maintain a sufficient charge on the EV during your rental.” Better watch your range. Better put, don’t use too much of it. Running an EeeeeeeVeeee down to “fumes” is not like running a gas-powered car down to fumes. If you do that in an EeeeeeeVeeeee, the thing will have to be towed – “by flatbed and (that) must be arranged through Hertz Emergency Roadside Assistance.”

It won’t be for free, either.

Be careful about charging their EeeeeeVeeee, too – because “(Y)ou are responsible for any damage to the EV, the charging station equipment or the charging location when charging the EV during your rental. You will indemnify Hertz for any charges, fines, or penalties You incur for any damage or loss to the EV, the charging station or location during your rental.”

    Italics added.

It is unclear whether this means the bill will be hung around your neck if the rental EeeeeeeVeeee auto-immolates while charging, as EeeeeeeVeeeees are prone to doing and something over which “You” have no control. But it sure sounds like it. You might want to check with your insurance mafia representative to see whether they will “cover” it before you sign for it.

“If You do not move the EV promptly from the charging stall when it is finished charging You may incur an Idle fee for the time the EV remains in a charging stall after it is finished charging. You are responsible for and will indemnify Hertz for any Idle or similar fee incurred when the EV is on rent to You.”

Look out! – as O.J. used to say.

“You” are on the hook for the “equipment” that comes along for the ride, including the EeeeeeVeeee charging cord but also including everything else. Hertz says: “You are responsible to return all contents of the Charging Kit upon your rental return. If the Charging Kit, or any part of the contents are damaged or lost, You will be charged for a complete Charging Kit, as these items are not available to be replaced individually, and a service fee.“

    Italics added.

The days of just grabbing the keys – and dropping them (and the car) off , O.J.-style are gone or at least, disapearing. To be replaced with the hassle, wait and cost of dealing with EeeeeeeeVeeeeeees.

Most people, of course, are not yet clued into this – but they will be, once it’s too late. And that’s why this timeshare saleseman push to replace vehicles that are easy to use and fast to use as well as inexpensive to use with electric vehicles that aren’t is happening. The idea being to make it a fait accompli before people understand what they’ve been signed up for.

Once it is too late – once there is no alternative to EeeeeeeeVeeees – the truth of them will be acknowledged and then people will be told they must accept and deal with the inconvenience, limitations and the costs of this “transition.”

If you think that’s unbelievabel, you’re not paying attention. The same people who brought you the “pandemic” are the ones behind this “transition.” The end-goal of which has never been about health – or the “climate.”

Did the car crash due to autopilot failure?

Was the driver unable to get out due to injuries and damage, or did the module and computer networking fail, which Teslas are prone to, effectively locking him in to fry?

Driver dies when Tesla catches fire in crash on I-75

A vehicle is a just a tool for transportation. How and how often you use that tool will dictate how you fuel it.

If you have VERY infrequent use, level 1 trickle charging can work for you. Yeah, it'll take forever, but you don't care because you hardly ever drive it.
If you use it every day, level 2 charging "might" work for you. In most cases, you won't be charging from zero - you'll only be replacing the miles you used the previous day.

If you regularly need the tool to drive long distances, or to carry things, or to tow things, then you want gas or diesel.

I have a battery-powered weedwhacker for my weekly grass trimming, but if I'm going to do brush work, I use the 2-cycle one. It's all about using the right tool for the right job. The difference here, of course, is that no one else is paying to make my weedwhacker "more affordable".

I think the more significant difference is that somebody is pointing a government gun to my head and demanding that I "choose" one tool and one tool only, regardless of whether or not it can do the job, whether it fits into my budget, whether I even want it for whatever personal reasons I may have.

And we all know what comes next: the day...the hour, that the last ICE vehicle is sold, the propaganda organs will start the campaign against EVs, because at the end of it all, this is like the ethanol scam.

Overall, all things considered, over the vehicle's expected lifespan, EVs are less efficient and "environmentally friendly" than a similar, modern ICE vehicle of the same weight, size and capability.

Then we all get a Chairman Mao bike.

Florida Officials: Hurricane Ian Has Turned Electric Cars into Ticking Time Bombs

    https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2022/...ng-time-bombs/

    ALANA MASTRANGELO 7 Oct 2022

Electric vehicles have caught on fire in Florida after becoming waterlogged during Hurricane Ian, giving firefighters “a new challenge” they “haven’t faced before,” according to one Florida official.

“There’s a ton of EVs disabled from Ian. As those batteries corrode, fires start. That’s a new challenge that our firefighters haven’t faced before. At least on this kind of scale,” Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s chief financial officer and state fire marshal, tweeted this week.

In his tweet, Patronis included a video of firefighters putting out a fire involving a Tesla. Meanwhile, someone can be heard saying that they had already used “1,500 gallons of water on this, and it’s still going.”

“Oh, and this will burn for days,” another individual can be heard saying in the video, before the first individual explains that the firefighters “have a good water supply,” and “they’re just going to do what they can to drown this vehicle.”

In a follow-up tweet, Patronis explained, “It takes special training and understanding of EVs [electric vehicles] to ensure these fires are put out quickly and safely.”

The tweet included three videos of firefighters extinguishing a fire on a Tesla.

“Right now they’re going to try to get in there and cool it down as best they can,” a woman can be heard explaining in the third video. “Electric vehicles will continue to burn in the water.”

North Collier Fire Rescue District in Naples, Florida, posted additional footage to Facebook, showing firefighters drenching the Tesla’s top and underbelly with water to eliminate sparks.

“This is an issue many fire departments across [southwest] Florida are experiencing right now,” North Collier Fire Rescue District said in the Facebook post. “These vehicles have been submerged in salt water; they have extensive damage and can potentially be serious fire hazards.”

Having an electric vehicle during hurricane season in Florida is not the only potential disaster EV owners face.

This week, a man who bought a brand new $115,000 Hummer electric truck showcased how he was left stranded in the middle of the road — and the vehicle had less than 250 miles on it.

Similarly, a YouTuber recently demonstrated that buyers of GMC’s new electric Hummer better clear their calendars if the truck is running low on battery charge. The video he produced demonstrated that when the $80,000+ electric vehicle (EV) is plugged in to a regular house outlet, it will take over four days to fully charge. A special 240-volt charger still takes a full day to charge the vehicle.

A third, similar situation regarding EVs, involved another YouTuber — with 1.4 million followers — conducting an experiment with his brand new 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup. The man tried to tow a 1930 Ford Model A truck with the electric vehicle, but it ended in “a complete and total disaster.”

    External combustion for the win.

Just so you know, I used to run diesel locomotives - some of the best years of my life. But those huge diesel engines charged up the batteries that ran the electric traction motors. This is an example of my old 1500HP baby: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_SW1500

Put out over a megawatt of power!!

Um, I think you'll find that the batteries in those cab steps barely have enough charge to turn over that supercharged, two cycle, twelve cylinder, 7,740 cid 645 engine on a cold day to get it started. The generator drove those four big assed motors directly. That's why you didn't even start to move until it got up over 750 rpm or so.

There were a handful of battery hybrids built in the 1920s, when a typical diesel only made 300 horses. Those diesels ran full speed all the time, charging the batteries when coasting or sitting so the batteries could help it move the freight. But once more powerful prime movers got developed, they quit that because they were sick of battery explosions.

If they had wanted to put that many explosive lead-acid batteries on a locomotive, they'd have put them on road units so the dynamic braking would do something besides bake the paint off the resistor grid housing. They didn't, until recently, under threat of ridiculous federal regulations.

Whether or not they're as hybrid as you think they are, trust me, that railfan knows that railroad diesels in the U.S. are electrics with on-board generators. That said, there are quite a few diesel-hydraulics in mainline service overseas, and they've seen duty in the U.S. in the form of industrial goats and diesel railcars.

None of which is external combustion, or capable of turning coal into transportation.

Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

And give or take some oxides of nitrogen due to compression, the exhaust is steam. But again, it's generally produced by hydrolysis, and how is the electricity produced?

Cummins is putting Plants on Dams in Wa. Recovering Waste energy and producing Hydrogen with it.

Solar Panels,,or wind Generators on a Shoreline..

Every electric Generating Plant ,,wastes energy in Low demand times. Use it.

Definitely works, where available. And please don't let autoincorrect put a "g" on Cummins.
