Infant and pregnant woman among six killed in fiery three-car crash in Los Angeles

Six people were killed in a fiery three-car crash at a busy intersection in Los Angeles, officials say.

The accident took place in the Windsor Hills area of the city just before 2pm, according to NBC4, and eight people were also injured.

The victims killed included an infant and a pregnant woman, local outlets reported.

Two of the badly-burned cars came to a stop at a Shell gas station, while a third appeared to have rolled onto its roof near the entrance to the gas station.

The cause of the crash, which took place around 10 miles southwest of Downtown Los Angeles, remains under investigation and the victims have not been named publicly.

A woman in her 40s accused of speeding more than 100 mph through a red light in Windsor Hills and plowing into a crowded intersection, killing six people and injuring another eight, has been arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, authorities said on Friday, Aug. 5, a day after the fiery, chain-reaction collision.

Her name had not been released.

Authorities so far have not disclosed whether they believe drugs, alcohol or texting factored into the crash.

A registered nurse suspected of speeding a Mercedes-Benz through a Windsor Hills intersection, sparking a fiery crash that killed six people — including an infant, a pregnant woman and her fetus — remained hospitalized and under arrest Friday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.

The Mercedes driver, Nicole Lorraine Linton, 37, of Los Angeles, survived the Thursday afternoon crash and was hospitalized with “moderate” injuries at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, according to the California Highway Patrol.

She was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, according to the CHP. There was no immediate word if drugs or alcohol factored into the crash.

A final determination of charges will be made by the District Attorney’s Office.

“Preliminary investigation indicates Nicole Lorraine Linton was driving a dark colored Mercedes, traveling southbound on La Brea Avenue at a high rate of speed,” according to a CHP statement.

“While driving the Mercedes, Linton proceeded through a red light and collided into multiple vehicles traveling eastbound and westbound on Slauson Avenue. As a result of this collision, multiple parties were ejected and two vehicles were fully engulfed in flames. Following the collision, involved parties were transported to (Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center) by ambulance and six individuals were declared deceased on scene,” the CHP reported.

There needs to be more regulations on cars. There is no need for a car to go that fast. Cars should be controlled by computers and halted at intersections. We need more EV's because they catch fire without the need for a collision.
