City officials crushed nearly 100 dirt bikes Tuesday, with Mayor Eric Adams saying he’s determined to eradicate the menacing vehicles from local streets.

In all, 92 of the illegal rides were pulverized under a bulldozer at the Erie Basin Auto Pound off Gowanus Bay in Brooklyn — as Adams vowed to continue City Hall’s war on the unauthorized recreational machines.

The bikes are not street-legal in the city.

“The NYPD heard the call, and they did a Herculean task to get rid of these loud, intimidating and dangerous and illegal dirt bikes and ATVs that are on our streets,” the mayor said at a press conference. “For years, we’ve witnessed what happens when they go under control or we do not enforce. They continue to grow over and over and over again.

“And I’m not going to give up on my promise and commitments to rid our streets of these bikes and make all of our boroughs a place where people can move about,” he said. “As you can see from the number of bikes here today, we are making good on our promise.”

Adams said the NYPD has taken about 900 of the bikes and ATVs off the streets of the Big Apple so far this year — an 88% bump over last year.

“Today, as we stand in the shadow of the Freedom Tower, we are freeing ourselves from these destructive piece[s] of machinery that’s on our streets,” Adams added.

(Because NOTHING says freedom like confiscating the property of citizens and then destroying it in a public Marxist media organ press release circle jerk. - AF)

“They will be crushed today so they can never terrorize our city again, each and every one of them,” he said. “They will be turned into scrap metal and eventually recycled."

Adams said the vehicles were not resold to ensure they would not motor their way back into the city and wreak more havoc on the streets.

A few things to point out here:

1 - Based on the pictures they used and the bikes they crushed, almost NONE were "dirt bikes".

In this picture almost every single bike there is a street legal scooter or small motorcycle. They all look to be Chinese knockoffs, I don't see a single one that is a "name brand" model, except what might be a Honda Ruckus in the front there.

Bikes like that get 80 to 100 mpg and afford cheap transportation for city folks who cannot afford the insane costs of owning a car in NYC

2 - 92 scooters being crushed in a city of 8 million people, is not anything, other than government bloviating.

3 - NOTHING says freedom like confiscating the property of citizens and then destroying it in a public Marxist media organ press release circle jerk.

4 - Authoritarian pooh bahs love these displays of destruction of what was once the citizen's property. They figure it shows the Mundanes who's the boss, let's them puff and preen in front of the crowd as they crush a pile of guns or scooters or books or booze or "undesirable" people.

They do provide a valuable metric for knowing what the regime you find yourself living under approves of though.

Ask yourself what the reaction would have been if that was a bulldozer crushing a bunch of "pride" flags, CDs of queeer porn and college textbooks on queeer theory?

5 - Every time I see one of these brass hats leading one of these dog and pony shows, I can't help but think of this guy:

Have you ever seen the actual dirt bike gangs in the inner cities? I've come across them in Baltimore going to the stadium. They are beyond reckless. Blocking traffic, speeding, blowing red lights, riding wheelies down the street, almost hitting pedestrians etc, no mufflers. Most of the dirt bikes and 4 wheelers are stolen as well. I've seen it to a lesser degree in Philly as well.

So I'm ok with efforts to stop them. Though I agree, lots of what is in the pictures doesn't look like the offending bikes.

If I'm not mistaken, this is a reaction to the East Coast equivalent of the side shows in California, where they block traffic, menace people, etc.

Standard totalitarian leftist attempt at "solution". Destroy and ban the tools used by the criminals.

I do my best to stay out of such places.

But scooters are the best transportation for such places and Cars are the congestion themselves.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

Your attitude is why we get pictures like this. You ask for government tyranny? That's what you are going to get. And it's not going to look the way you want it to.

I count about eight actual dirt bikes. Which is enough to hide the rest, if they had put them in the first few rows, closest to the cameras.

That's the really grating thing about all this tyranny lately. They announce this crap, and let the press post it with pictures that prove to anyone but complete morons that it's all lies. It's like they're daring people with brains to point out the lie.

They're proud of how they're misusing power. They're rubbing our noses in it. They're like high school bullies. Yeah, what I'm doing is just wrong. What are you going to do about it?

My pearls were clutched just reading this!

The cops up there harm and “almost” run into a lot more people doing their horrible jobs than all the dirt bikes in NYC. Stop them.

Edit: it’s like asking a psychopath to take care of your neighbor’s junk problem. Overkill to say the least.

I haven't been to those areas in almost 10 years. My personal experince with this crap was we were walking to Camden yards to see a game with the kids and a whole pack of the dirt bikes and 4 wheelers came down the street breaking just about every traffic law.

If by tyranny you mean enforcing existing long standing traffic laws, then yes please. I would suspect most the impounded bikes were either unlicensed, unclaimed or stolen.

I don't really care that much about some motorcycles. It could be somebody's livelihood in some cases, which is sad, but they'll probably overcome.

The balls-out, dick-wagging bullying, however, will end. It will stop or it will be put to a stop, bullies' choice.

Sounds good. But the thing in which they seem to be rubbing our noses is the sheer number of people who either believe every ridiculous thing they say, or pretend to in order to avoid making waves.

That's the EXACT same logic driving the gun control debate. "Gang bangers and mass shooters use scary looking guns. So....ban them all." That's where it's headed.
