It would be enlightening to have a poll of average Americans. Either by showing a picture, and asking “do you know who this is”, or just asking “have you heard of Gary Johnson”. Maybe 1%? I can only think of one person I know in real life that could answer that question, and that’s because she has to hear about politics all the time...That is not what I said.

The LP had two ex-governors on their 2016 ticket. (Let's not forget Bill Weld, after all. Even more gravitas!)
The Greens didn't have any ex-governors on theirs. And unlike the LP, they weren't even on the ballot in all fifty states.

The people in every party often have much better ideas than those who hold power.
However, this tends to use Group Psychology so that the members of any group adopt the ideas of the leaders. And as far as I am concerned, Libertarian and Alt Right are incompatible, unless of course, just like both the Republican and Democrat parties, the Leadership has been co-opted.
They always do everything they can to make meaningful opposition work for them instead of against them.
