Remember when Larry McDonald was going to run for president in 1984 and then conveniently died in a plane crash?

I think that was the last Conservative Democrat.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

While speaking at the 50th Anniversary of the John Birch Society, Congressman Ron Paul takes the opportunity to express his admiration for his dear friend Congressman Larry McDonald.

Ron Paul went to Congressman Larry McDonald, a Democrat, for advice on running for Congress. McDonald said, "Run in the party you think you can WIN because political parties are irrelevant."

This made Ron Paul run as a Republican.
