    Rate bpts = (Inflation Rate - 2%)

Keeping in spirit with the FEDs 2% target rate, shouldn't they simply use this equation? Thus, we should be closer to 6% bpts now.

The only thing the markets care about is when will the fed pivot.

It's interesting because almost by definition the fed has to pretend to be aggressive, up until the very last second. They have to try to talk the inflation down without actually doing anything substantial. I think most people are looking for some sort of gradual sign that the fed is going to reverse course, but there won't be one. It's going to be a total surprise when it happens. I think it'll be before the end of the year, but who knows. They've tanked the markets more than I thought they would but my guess is that it'll be something in the bond market that breaks first. That's what happened before in 2019 and that's what happened in the UK.

I'm surprised rates have made it this high without the wheels falling off. My guess it a lot of the 8 trillion that has been printed since 2008 is being held in reserve by the banks to use as a buffer. But it's only a matter of time before something breaks.

I'm not expecting any growt next yr , I am also not expecting significant improvement in inflation , I think the fed keeps raising rates but in lower increments and it changes little. Hard to tell but I thhink that is most likely.

So I just downloaded a chart of the amount of interest the govt is paying on the debt. 2021 we paid 430 billion from jan-sep. 2022 we paid 565 billion from jan-sep. That huge rise is mostly from the increase in rates. So even if by some miracle the banks don't fail, the fact that we're rapidly approaching a death spiral default on the debt absolutely will cause the federal reserve to pivot.

How many times have you heard people say the debt doesn't matter because rates are so low? When I hear stupid crap like that it makes me feel more confident in my predictions because they're saying stuff so blatantly wrong. In this case the exact opposite is true. If rates were 20% and the interest payments were small THEN you'd be right to say we have nothing to worry about. But when rate are historically low they have no where to go but up so the fact that they are low now means nothing.

That was one of the idiotic things Zippy used to say. Good ole Zippy.

What we do know is what they have done so far has had little effect on inflation as a whole . Winter is coming .

The massive amounts of deficit spending have hardly hit the economy yet. Fed adjusting rates is like spitting on a bonfire. Energy prices are causing immediate inflation.

That's higher than I thought they could get. Something is going to break. And if by some miracle nothing breaks and all the banks stay solvent, in the end the fed will have to pivot to keep the US from defaulting on its debt. If rates go to 5% that means the interest payments on the debt will go to over 1.5 trillion. That would be close to half our total tax revenue.
