So, when DC Comics announced that their new Superman was coming out of the closet as bisexual, and entering in to a same sex relationship, a report came from TMZ claiming that the backlash was so severe that DC felt it necessary to request and received LAPD protection for the creators and production people working on the book.

As each new MSM source picked up the story it got more and more sensational, with several claiming that there were death threats serious enough to require such protection.

There was only one problem. It never happened.

Oh, social media errupted with the usual kinds of comments one finds on social media, from both sides. But there was nothing so serious as to require police protection, and none was actually requested or provided.

No DC Comics Police Calls Over Bisexual Superman Death Threats
Posted on November 4, 2021 by Rich Johnston

A couple of days ago, TMZ reported under the headline "SUPERMAN Bisexual Backlash Spurs LAPD PROTECTION FOR ARTISTS, STUDIO" that "LAPD officers were recently dispatched to patrol the homes of some of the illustrators/production staffers who created the latest iteration of Superman. The extra protection comes after major backlash that included some so-called fans making threats. We're told the pissed-off comic book readers inundated the studios to voice their displeasure with the character's newly-announced sexuality. Our sources say the studios called LAPD, requesting for patrols to keep an eye out — both at the private residences of some artists, and at the studio itself. While nothing legitimate came from the threats, our sources say cops still patrolled out of an abundance of caution — and that the situation has since settled down."

Bleeding Cool checked with our own sources and found that, if true, none of the DC Comics people involved with the production of the comic seemed aware it. And that there was no sign of LA police being called keep an eye out over creators or staffers. Indeed, the writer of the comic book in question lives in Australia and the artist in Costa Rica, which may be a little outside the LAPD's jurisdiction.

Google "police protection for creators of gay superman" and you still get page after page of stories claiming that it happened. I had to change the search to "police protection for superman creators hoax" to see the Bleeding Cool piece quoted above.

I figured that each successive generation of comic book enthusiasts have ever-devolving reading skills.

However, there is hope for the industry in the increasing rates of autism and retardation.

PRICED OUT: AT WHAT POINT DO COMICS BECOME TOO EXPENSIVE FOR FANS?

I swear this isn't a column pining for the good old days of 40-cent comics and spinner racks. Really, it's not.
Forty cents. Cripes, I bought Superman and Batman at a dime an issue ... and was bummed out when that went up to 12 cents.
    Yeah, OK Boomer!

However, there does come a point where comic books can simply become too expensive for many fans, forcing readers to drop titles not because they don't like reading them, but because they simply can't afford to anymore.
We may be approaching that point.
One of the Big Two publishers, DC Comics, is bumping the price up on some of its monthly titles to $5.99 for a 40-page issue.

Why Comic Book Sales Are At An All-Time Low
Marvel decides to kill off the iconic Punisher - because he's too popular with "conservatives".

We can't have that, now! Goodness, no! Popular characters? That's just terrible!

What we really need is something like ... Gay Superman! Yeah, that's the ticket!

So riddle me this: what do you do after you cancel your politically-correct comics because too many people don't want to buy them, and you also cancel your politically-incorrect comics because too many people do want to buy them? What then, geniuses?
