Are adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine recordable on the OSHA recordkeeping log?

DOL and OSHA, as well as other federal agencies, are working diligently to encourage COVID-19 vaccinations. OSHA does not wish to have any appearance of discouraging workers from receiving COVID-19 vaccination, and also does not wish to disincentivize employers' vaccination efforts. As a result, OSHA will not enforce 29 CFR 1904's recording requirements to require any employers to record worker side effects from COVID-19 vaccination at least through May 2022. We will reevaluate the agency’s position at that time to determine the best course of action moving forward.

I used to manage teams in a steel plant and the electric industry where safety is a HUGE concern.

The definition of an OSHA-recordable injury or illness is extremely important and it's how all these companies track and report their safety statistics.

For example, if an employee is hurt on the job and requires a stiff brace, it's an OSHA-recordable. If the employee only needs a soft wrap, it's not. If an employee uses and Epi-Pen after a bee sting, it's an OSHA-recordable. If the bump their head and take an Advil, it's not OSHA-recordable, but if they take enough to hit the dosing limit, it is.

Any adverse reaction to something mandated as part of your job would normally be OSHA-recordable depending on what treatment you received. That they are changing their guidelines for this - and that they are explicitly doing this because of "appearances" of any kind is complete BS. And, it should open them up to lawsuits of all kinds.
