    • The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, has said it fired 15 rockets towards the Israeli town of Dimona, near the country’s main nuclear reactor, after Israel pledged a tough response against Palestinian militants.

The group announced its latest rocket attack from Gaza towards Israel in a statement on Wednesday, adding that another 50 rockets had been fired towards the city of Ashdod.

New radioactive water leak at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi plant

February 20, 2014 A large amount of radioactive water has leaked from a holding tank at Japan’s troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, its operator said Thursday.
The leak of an estimated 100 metric tons of highly contaminated water was discovered late Wednesday, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) said in a statement.
The tainted water flowed over a barrier around the tank and is being absorbed into the ground, TEPCO said. The plant has shut off the inflow of water into the tank and the leaking has stopped, it added.
The company doesn’t believe that there was any leakage of the radioactive water into the nearby Pacific Ocean.
Since the massive earthquake and tsunami that hit northeastern Japan in March 2011 set off meltdowns at three of the reactors at the nuclear plant, TEPCO has been storing the enormous volumes of water contaminated at the site in a steadily growing collection of containers.
The company has struggled to manage the vast amounts of radioactive water, with a number of leaks reported last year.

And all because Netanyahu couldn't form a coalition government so he sends in the shock troops to start to sway political opinion his way. Watch the political drama behind the curtain of violence.

    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20...-on-jerusalem/

The chances of a new Israeli government replacing the far-right coalition of Benjamin Netanyahu has suffered a blow following the decision by the Ra'am Party to freeze contacts with Yair Lapid, leader of the centrist Yesh Atid party, as assaults against Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem increase.

Lapid received the mandate last week from President Rivlin which grants him 28 days to try to form a government, following Netanyahu's failure to cobble together a coalition following Israel's fourth election in two years.

The chairman of the Ra'am, Mansour Abbas, announced last night that the negotiations on the formation of a government have been halted in light of the escalation in Gaza and tensions in Jerusalem. The besieged enclave was bombed yesterday by occupation jets killing dozens of Palestinians including nine children, while occupied East Jerusalem saw some of the worst violence in its history with Israeli forces storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque, causing injuries to 300 Palestinians.

A senior Ra'am official told Kan 11 News that they do not know if they will be able to resume negotiations before Lapid's mandate to form a government expires and that this depends on the extent of the escalation.

This development is likely to dent the chances of ousting Netanyahu and push Israel to its fifth election in two years.

Former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque preacher, Sheikh Ikrima Sabri, said that Netanyahu ordered the brutal attack on Al-Aqsa to satisfy Jewish settlers and secure his position as premier.

Sabri said yesterday that Israeli occupation forces attacked Al-Aqsa Mosque, upon orders from Netanyahu, to satisfy the settlers, so that he would remain in the position of prime minister.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Turmoil from the battle between Israel and Hamas spilled over into the West Bank on Friday, sparking the most widespread Palestinian protests in years as hundreds of young demonstrators in multiple towns clashed with Israeli troops, who shot and killed at least 11 people.

Israel's bombardment of the Gaza Strip continued into early Saturday, when an airstrike on a house in Gaza City killed at least seven Palestinians — the highest number of fatalities in a single hit. That strike came a day after a furious overnight barrage of tank fire and airstrikes that wreaked destruction in some towns, killed a family of six in their house and sent thousands fleeing their homes.

    The Skunk Water Truck.

    https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2...ive-punishment

In addition to those killed, hundreds have been injured by live and rubber bullets, tear gas and beatings, but also by a weapon that is lesser known to the global media covering the protests. Many have erroneously referred to it as a water cannon or a sewage truck.

In Arabic, we call it the “kharara”- literally “the $#@!ter” – for its putrid smell. In English, it is called skunk water, after the notoriously awful smell released by skunks. Skunk water was developed as a “crowd control weapon” by an Israeli company called Odortec.

Skunk water is a liquid compound with an overpowering odour that has been described by those who have experienced it as the smell of sewage mixed with rotting corpses. In reality, it is a concoction of chemicals that causes intense nausea, obstructing normal breathing, causing violent gagging and vomiting. The company’s safety sheet also indicates that it can cause skin irritation, eye and abdominal pain. Palestinians have also reported that it causes hair loss.

Of course, the Israeli forces do not only use it to suppress protests; they also deploy it for collective punishment. Skunk trucks pass through Palestinian neighbourhoods spraying buildings in retaliation for local residents protesting Israeli occupation and apartheid.

As a result, businesses have to close for days and families have to leave their homes for long periods of time until the stench is gone. This is what makes it a brutal collective punishment tool.

Apart from selling skunk water to the Israeli government to use on Palestinians, Odortec also exports it. In the United States, it is supplied by the company Mistral Security, which recommends its usage at “border crossings, correctional facilities, demonstrations and sit-ins”. Several police departments have already bought it, including the one in Ferguson, Missouri, following the 2015 protests against police brutality and institutional racism.

The fact that this weapon developed by an Israeli company is gaining popularity abroad is unsurprising. Israel is the largest per capita exporter of arms in the world and it uses Palestinians as its guinea pigs to demonstrate their “efficacy” and “deadliness”. Odortec and other Israeli arms manufacturers do not even have to invest in marketing their weapons; news channels running footage of brutal attacks by the Israeli army do the job for them.

Israeli companies that produce weapons for mass killing have Gaza to test them on. The Israelis have even called the densely-populated strip, where civilians are not protected by an “Iron Dome” or sophisticated military shelters, a “cash cow”. The horrific outcome of decades of Israeli arms companies “testing” practices have been thousands of killed and maimed Palestinians.

All of this is a manufactured crisis by Netanyahu so he can appear as a unifying leader during crisis and gather his political forces so he can form a government and remain in power.

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/israels...hu-11621092285

TEL AVIV—Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pressing an aggressive campaign against Hamas, targeting its leaders, strategic infrastructure and military sites to deter the militant group from continuing its attacks on Israel. The operation could aid Mr. Netanyahu’s other vital goal of staying in power.

One week earlier, Mr. Netanyahu’s opponents were poised to unseat him and form a new government, potentially ending the rule of the country’s longest-serving leader as he faces corruption charges. He denies wrongdoing.

But the past six days of national turmoil have offered the Israeli prime minister a political lifeline. When Arab parties and a right-wing politician pulled out of talks this week to join or back a rival coalition, the threat to unseat Mr. Netanyahu appeared to collapse.

In the middle of turmoil, Mr. Netanyahu’s Likud party has restarted negotiations with Yamina, the party of right-wing politician Naftali Bennett who backed away from a potential unity government with centrist Yair Lapid along with Arab parties in support. Mr. Bennett changed course amid the communal violence roiling the country, according to a person close to him.

“Given the current emergency situation in the mixed cities in Israel, the change government…would not be able to deal with the situation,” Mr. Bennett told associates, according to the person.

Mr. Lapid, head of the centrist Yesh Atid party, has a mandate to form a government until June 2. He said he is still seeking to cobble together a government and would support a fifth election, if necessary, to replace Mr. Netanyahu.

“Bennett is wrong,” Mr. Lapid said after his erstwhile political partner changed course. “I will continue turning over every stone to form a government.”

If Mr. Lapid fails, the mandate gets passed to the Knesset, Israel’s parliament. The Knesset would then have three weeks to present a prime ministerial candidate. If that also fails, Israel will head to a fifth election in two years. In the meantime, Mr. Netanyahu will remain in power for at least several more months.

Mr. Netanyahu has an additional incentive to remain in power, as witness testimony in his trial for charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust is under way. He has sought to build a right-wing religious coalition that could help him pass legislation to better insulate him against these charges.

Even with Mr. Bennett’s return to his camp, Mr. Netanyahu faces the same challenges he did after the March vote—he doesn’t yet have the numbers to form a 61-seat majority coalition.

Mr. Netanyahu is hoping to win over Blue and White party leader Benny Gantz, who formed a short-lived unity government with him after a March 2020 vote. Analysts have pointed to close cooperation between the pair during the military operation as a basis for future collaboration. Mr. Gantz so far has stuck by his promises not to join Mr. Netanyahu again.

Mr. Gantz is among the Israeli leaders across the political spectrum who have aligned against Mr. Netanyahu, leaving him in roughly the same spot as before the recent fighting. Mr. Netanyahu failed to form a government after the most recent election, and since then, he has been unable to come up with any new formula that would allow him to remain prime minister even if he gets the chance to try again, said Dahlia Scheindlin, a pollster and political analyst.

“The developments on the ground become more extreme but the same political quagmire or Gordian knot remains,” she said. “Nothing’s over until it’s over here.”

US sending new aid to Palestinians as conflict intensifies
    By MATTHEW LEE
    May 14, 2021

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration notified Congress this week that it will send millions of dollars in U.S. assistance to the Palestinians aimed at promoting peace with Israel even as violence between the two sides rages.

As the conflict intensifies despite U.S. calls for restraint, the administration notified Congress on Thursday that it will provide $10 million to Palestinian groups in the West Bank and Gaza to support exchange and reconciliation projects with Israelis. The recipients of the aid were not named.

The State Department said Friday that the money is part of more than $100 million that the administration allocated to the Palestinians earlier this year, reversing a near total cutoff in support under former President Donald Trump.

In a notice to lawmakers obtained by The Associated Press, the U.S. Agency for International Development said the $10 million would go to support “people-to-people efforts to bring together conflict-affected groups to address divisions that may be rooted in group differences such as ethnicity, religion, status, class, or political affiliation in areas affected by conflict and civil war.”

Biden has yet to reverse many of Trump's pro-Israel policies he labeled 'destructive'

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden never promised a wholesale reversal of his predecessor’s approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

But he blasted many of the Trump administration’s decisions as “destructive” and “short-sighted.” Yet four months into his term, Biden has left many of President Donald Trump’s pro-Israel policies in place – leading to frustration in Washington and the Middle East.

Top U.S. general warns of broader destabilization risk from Israel-Palestinian hostilities

    by Reuters
    Monday, 17 May 2021 22:08 GMT

(Adds remarks by Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, background)
    By Phil Stewart
BRUSSELS, May 17 (Reuters) - The top U.S. military officer, Army General Mark Milley, warned on Monday of the risk of broader destabilization beyond Gaza without a de-escalation in the fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants.
After more than a week of fighting, Milley noted Israel's actions were in self-defense but also cautioned that the levels of violence were such that "it's in no one's interest to continue fighting."
"My assessment is that you risk broader destabilization and you risk a whole series of negative consequences if the fighting continues," Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters shortly before landing in Brussels for talks with NATO allies.

"So in my view, I think de-escalation is a smart course of action at this point for all parties concerned."

Israel pummeled Gaza with air strikes on Monday and Palestinian militants launched rockets at Israeli cities despite a flurry of U.S. and regional diplomacy that has so far failed to halt the fighting.

House Democrats to ask Biden to halt U.S. arms sale to Israel pending review

Democrats held an emergency meeting on the proposed sale, Haaretz learned, after the Washington Post reported the sale of weapons including Joint Direct Attack Munitions ("JDAM") kits that transform bombs into precision-guided missiles and Guided Bomb Unit-39s (GBU-39), a weapon developed for penetrating fortified facilities located deep underground. The U.S. Defense Department previously sold Israel 14,500 JDAMs in a $1.8 billion arms sale in 2015.

The State Department, required by law to provide a 15-day advance notification of any arms sale, originally provided official notice of the proposed sale on May 5 ahead of the recent round of violence. (Ben Samuels)

Maybe you've tried in vain to ignore the media hysteria of Israel once again bombing poor Palestines.
While protests against the corona police state are brutally beat down, and/or completely ignored by the mainstream media, protests against the crimes against humanity by Israel are now suddenly BIG news...

What could possibly be the motive for this sudden hysteria?
It looks orchestrated to cover-up some worse scandal...

The high COVID-vaccinated Israel has experienced skyrocketing COVID cases and deaths, while the number of COVID cases and deaths in low COVID-vaccinated Palestine remained low.
Cynically saying, bombing the hell out of Palestinians that refuse the experimental, deadly COVID vaccines, is one way of "proving" that it's dangerous to refuse these genocidal vaccines. At the very least it works great for a distraction, with people so severely brainwashed that it's amazing that they never forget to bring their surveillance equipment (mobile phones) that has made this "plandemic" possible...

The result of the great Israel COVID vaccination "Success story? Israel’s coronavirus stats are worse than all its neighbors".
Israel’s leaders have lauded the country’s coronavirus figures: 16,667 cases, and 279 deaths as of Thursday morning. This translates to 1,929 cases per million and 32 deaths per million.
    (...)
But in Egypt and Jordan, immediate neighbors of Israel, figures are lower. They recorded 139 cases per million and 66 cases per million, respectively, and their death rates are seven per million and 0.9 per million, respectively. The Palestinians, with their 398 cases and two deaths, stand at 78 cases per million and 0.4 deaths per million.
Syria and Lebanon, also immediate neighbors, have reported three cases per million 141 cases per million, respectively, and morbidity rates of 0.2 deaths per million and four per million, respectively.
Once the vaccination campaign started, we saw a very interesting shift. While the Orthodox Jews went en masse to get “the jab”, the Palestinians (Israeli Arabs) did not follow this pattern. In the early stages of the vaccination campaign, in January, we saw a rise of 15 times as many morbidity cases in the Orthodox Jewish segment while we saw a significant drop (in morbidity) in the Israeli Arab segment. By not taking the vaccine, the level of morbidity dropped sharply. It was then that I began to figure out there was a connection between vaccination and morbidity.

    Update:

Bennett to announce he's joining opposition to form new Israeli government, oust Netanyahu

The leader of right-wing Yamina party Naftali Bennett could announce as early as Sunday that he is joining opposition leader Yair Lapid to form a power-sharing government in Israel, sources familiar with the issue tell Axios.

Why it matters: If a new "change government" will be formed, Bennett will be prime minister and will bring an end to 12 years of Benjamin Netanyahu rule. Such a development could end the political crisis that led to four consecutive elections in two years.

Flashback: Three weeks ago, Lapid was on the verge of forming a power-sharing government that would see Bennett serve first as prime minister for two years before Lapid rotates into the job. But Bennett backtracked amid the Gaza conflict.

Driving the news: Bennett met Lapid on Thursday and according to several press reports told Lapid he wants to join a power-sharing government, but still needs to get other members of his party behind him, mainly his deputy Ayelet Shaked.

Bennett held consultations on Saturday night (local time) with Shaked and other close confidants.
What to watch: On Sunday morning, he will hold a meeting with all the members of Knesset from his party to hear their views on the possibility of joining a "change government."

The big picture: If a new government is formed, it will be the most wide-ranging coalition ever formed in Israel.

Such a government will be highly fragile, avoid controversial issues, take all decisions in consensus and focus on the economy, post-COVID-19 relief and stabilization of the Gaza ceasefire.

Even such an agreed-upon agenda will be very hard to implement and the government could fall apart within months.
What's next: Lapid's mandate for forming a government expires on Wednesday.

If Bennett announces he's joining the "change government," Lapid wants to sign all coalition agreements by Wednesday, notify Israeli President Reuven Rivlin he managed to form and swear in the new government as early as next Monday.
This gives Netanyahu another week to try and sabotage the new government and prevent Lapid and Bennett from mastering the majority they need.

JERUSALEM — The longest-serving prime minister in Israeli history, Benjamin Netanyahu, faced the most potent threat yet to his grip on power Sunday after an ultranationalist power-broker, Naftali Bennett, said his party would work with opposition leaders to build an alternative government to force Mr. Netanyahu from office.

If the maneuvering leads to a formal coalition agreement, it would be an uneasy alliance between eight relatively small parties with a diffuse range of ideologies. The prime minister’s post would rotate between two unlikely partners: Mr. Bennett, a former settler leader who rejects the concept of a sovereign Palestinian state and champions the religious right — and Yair Lapid, a former television host who is considered a voice of secular centrists.
