Exclamation Old School Machine Shop Skills

    Adam has 'em.

I highly recommend watching a few, these are vital skills and will very valuable to have, especially those you'd find in a general purpose, non-computerized, non-production shop like he has.

I learned to work machine tools without digital aids... Thanks for the links, that's going to be nice and relaxing to watch.

Oh cool, yeah so have I, he's on a list of "regulars" I check at least once a week.

Loved watching the setup and working the shapers he got.

Those are damn capable tools that became "obsolete" for no good reason.

I can run his machines but put me in front of a CNC machine and I'm lost...

Something tells me that knowledge of "the old ways" is good to have and pass on.

Same here. I took formal training decades ago on the very first gen CNC and comp production machines using punch cards and tapes.

That's of course long long gone...but doing it by hand still survives and even thrives.

You'd enjoy the wooden boat building that still goes on out here.

I'm building a mahogany canoe right now, glassed the outside before it got cold, waiting to do the inside when it stays over 70...

Stained to resemble the old Chriscraft mahogany boats, without gunnels, seats and decks the hull weighs about 55# for a 17' x 37".

If it doesn't sell I'll fish out of it.
