Today I introduced a bill to end no knock warrants

Today I introduced HB 2133, which would end no knock warrants in our state. The bill is simple and requires a police officer to be uniformed and announce his or her presence before executing a search warrant and coming inside someone's home. I was able to get a bipartisan coalition together of two Republicans and three Democrats to cosponsor the bill. The bill is only about a half page long and is linked below.

I hope this helps to keep both the civilians and the Police safe. I think any uniformed Police Officer will have enough brains to recognize that the Law (if this bill passes) no longer forcibly places them in harms way. Police can get shot by a law abiding citizen just as easily as a burglar when breaking into a home.

I'm not sure what type of a bill you would be referring to in regards to 4th Amendment protections. Ending no knock warrants seems like just a baby step but is probably still fairly controversial in Kansas, unfortunately.

Basically just reinforcing Search and Seizure without warrant, or probable cause, which many pretty much IGNORE because a lot of drug charges are considered Civil thus bypassing the 4th Amendment, so it allows police to confiscate all property and bank accounts if "drugs" are accused. So if someone is genuinely innocent, they can no longer afford Legal Defense if they have any money at all because it has been confiscated prior to a determination of guilt or innocense.

Right now I think we have MUCH BIGGER things to worry about, but 4th could also be used to defend Republicans from the agreses of the Democrats. If youve been paying even a small iota of attention, you know that the Democrats are trying to CRIMINALIZE Political Beliefs, even the most moderate or politically inactive.
@tod evans could hopefully weigh in as he has a MUCH better take on this topic.

It sounds like you're talking about civil asset forfeiture, which I agree should be ended, although I don't have a bill to end that this year.

A bill stripping the ability to seize assets from DA's would be good.

Rewriting the District Attorney's scope of authority would be a most heroic undertaking and could do more for the cause of freedom and liberty than anything else you could accomplish.

As jurisprudence sits the DA has more power than even the judge/courts as far as the citizenry is concerned, bringing that power into balance is the job of the legislature.

Federal asset forfeiture is another matter ripe for legislation at the state level but you'll have to bring the state DA's to heel first.

Great Job! Way to go! Consider a right to surrender bill. Allow people a chance to surrender before blazing guns. Use diplomacy. Inform the person they are wanted and give them a chance to peacefully give themselves up.
