Help me max out!!--Buy Wikipedia on DVD-ROM

Everyone, my husband has a product that he just barely put on the market this past week, and he has told me that if we sell enough of them he'll let me max out for both of us.
He put all of the English language Wikipedia articles onto a DVD-ROM (yes it's legal) and is selling the DVD-Roms on Amazon.com for 13.98 per. Here's the link directly to his store, (it says "1 available" but there's unlimited stock):

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00110FNPA?...3X3GBVN24BADS&

Or you can purchase it straight from us for $15.56 shipped at http://datamoon.net/wikipedia.html.

Please, if you have any interest in this product, go purchase NOW! He'll let me donate $2-3 per DVD until we both max out!!!!! Please! I will post my confirmation

numbers for donations and everything, whatever it takes to prove that I'm serious. I'll even give you my phone number so you can call me and get to know me so you know I'm not lying--I'm crazy, yes, but I'm serious.

I'm also selling some personal belongings, listed on page two of this thread.

why would someone need a dvd of the articles if you can get them for free online?

    or maybe I don't understand.

Not to burst your bubble, but wouldn't it be better if everyone donated the full 13.98 to the campaign?

Not if they have already maxed out or else if they like the product anyway. This is the only way I have right now until the pawn shops open Monday. I should have thought of the pawn shops earlier.

Maybe for those who maxed out, this is one option.

Ah, gotcha. It's not my money, anyway. Spend it however you'd like.

I also have a 14k gold ring for sale that retails for $200, as well as about 12 "Precious Moments" porcelain figurines, a Mikasa porcelain frame in its box with a man and woman dancing attached (a wedding gift), a gold and garnet necklace, and a bunch of American Sign Language Interpreting Curriculum and basic ASL books.

Oh yeah also a new in Box Sunbeam Mixing stand and bowl. Also a wedding gift that I never used.

Here's the ring I'm selling that usually retails $200. I'll take the best offer and donate all of it immediately upon receiving payment.

Exactly! Then you would have a wikipedia wherever you went--fun fun. It runs on anything with java 1.5 ( I think that's what he said).

You could always try to download all of wikipedia to your flash drive without buying the DVD too, but that would take the same amount of work that it took my husband to get it in a usable format on a DVD. Which is a long time.

Either way, don't let a purchase like this keep you from donating from the campaign--it's just an option. I'd very much prefer to have 13.98 go to the campaign from you than $2 from me, but if it works for you to buy a wikiDVD, go for it, and thanks because I REALLY WANT TO DONATE MORE!!!

I thought about donating every time a purchase was made but the campaign probably has to pay a small amount of each donation in system fees or something. I'll wait for a good amount to accrue first, maybe $50 to $100. I better go to bed for now.

If your husband is giving $3 of a $15 sale, for you to make $2300 means you need to sell 767 of these...which means he makes $11,505, minus the $2300 he hands over to you leaves him with $9,205.

Is he making his own contribution with some of that? I'm not trying to be harsh here, its just that something doesn't feel quite right about going through the trouble of making a product all about Ron Paul if you are only in it for your own gain.

I know what information products cost to produce and mail. Even giving you $3 on a $15 sale, he's still making a nice profit.

Hey, I'm all for capitalism, but if he doesn't feel passionately about what's behind the product he's making, maybe he should put his efforts into a different product.

Most of us here are throwing in every spare dollar we have, and when we hit the $2300 mark, we continue putting money in through buying and distributing DVDs and other products or putting money and/or time in some other way.

I don't expect everyone to feel the need to do this. Any contribution, be it money or time and energy, is great. And maybe that's how I should be looking at this.

Again, I'm all for making money. There's just something about this that feels like someone is trying to make a buck off of my (and your) passion for wanting to make the world a better place.

I think its great to make money doing what you're passionate about. It just feels like that's absent on his part. O.K., yes, that is harsh, I admit. Don't know what's gotten into me, honestly. For some reason this is just pushing my buttons.

Maybe I'm wrong here. Maybe he does believe in the cause and is not just leeching off the good intentions of others. I hope so. I hope he puts in his max donation from his profits.

At any rate, I really admire your courage and enthusiasm. I hope I haven't offended in any way...I just wanted to be upfront as to why it didn't feel right for me personally to buy the product. Thanks for allowing me to share.

Zip, your honesty is admirable and your concern is valid.

He does believe in his product quite a bit. He didn't want the product advertised until he had had a chance to get more feedback, (although it is a good and usable product now). He didn't even know I was advertising it to these forums.

I promise I don't want to just make an easy buck. It's just that I am a stay-at-home mother and I don't bring in any income very often. I'm hoping that this product will create value for people, as well as enable me to donate more.

If this is inappropriate, by all means do not buy the DVD. But if it creates some value for you, then purchase it. I'll still sell some of my personal belongings to donate more, (I wish I'd thought of it before) but I can't sell them in time to donate for today. This is my ploy to get enough money to donate.

    I'll talk to him.

Thanks for being kind and honest, zip.

I just saw this part; he'll let me max for both of us, but I don't know if he'll let me go above $2 per DVD. He does very much believe in his product. I urge him constantly to never create anything he wouldn't want himself. I'd rather tighten the belt than have him make money on something he didn't believe in, and he knows that. I tell him that whenever he has an entrepreneurial idea. (If he weren't here to temper my lack of financial IQ I'd have donated $1000 on my whim and be trying to figure out how to pay rent, lol. He's a lot smarter with our finances than I am, and he wants to recoup costs for equipment and time put into the project, as well as make sure we don't go in the hole financially. But NOT on passion. Please don't purchase unless you're interested in it. )

Either way, I really don't mean to do anything inappropriate. I know I'm probably making myself look bad here but I can't tell you how badly I want to donate more. I've prayed for $500 to come my way to donate, or at least $300, and the first thing that came to my mind was to promote this for my husband. Please don't look upon me ill. We've spent hundreds of dollars on meetup activities and more on donations. I'm desperate for more funds. The tea party will go on without me, though

    ( And no, I couldn't sleep. )

    Ron Paul supporters,

It is my product that my wife is promoting here. She means well, and my willingness to use it for his benefit is for good. I mentioned to her a willingness to share the profits with Ron Paul. However this is probably the wrong way to go about it as the people who need or want an off-line encyclopedia who are also Ron Paul supporters is small (or, seemingly, nonexistent), which is fine. (I have not yet broken even on this venture, nor will I for several hundred more DVDs, cost per disc matters little when you have not recouped development costs).

That said, do not buy this product solely to help Ron Paul (obviously it is a very inefficient means of doing so). If you happen to want an off-line encyclopedia, sure, or know someone else who might want one, pass it along. I don't want to sell just to sell, I don't feel good about this and you don't feel good about this either. I want to sell to people who genuinely want the product.

That said, I'm happy to help Ron Paul along the way to profitability.

    Good day!

    Brandon
