Ron Paul 2008: A New Hope

This Thanksgiving I'm thankful for some good memories:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FG2PUZoukfA

I hope you folks are doing well. I voted in my local elections this most recent election cycle and am contemplating setting up a small recurring donation to charity.

I searched for a way to insert the Ron Paul Revolution love graphic but I couldn't find it so just imagine that's how I signed off.

It doesn't end with this election cycle. Commit to long term change, and you won't see all the GOP state convention shenanigans as the end of the Ron Paul Revolution--but as the end of the neocon control of the GOP, (and the beginning of the Ron Paul Revolution). Hang in there for another year or so, and you'll start to see some absolutely amazing results for all of our efforts. ~Ninja Homer

Cheers to you for posting this and reminding me what "turned" me.
There's still fight left in me. This year has brought it back out.

Those were great times! If only the secret billionaire would have come through...

In my mind the Trump campaign is a building block to the liberty we worked toward back in 2007. Defeating the Marxists and pushing the GOP in a more libertarian direction are still my goals!

I can barely remember the secret billionaire, but I remember there were many posts and theories. What do you remember about the secret billionaire lore?

What impressed me most about the 2008 Ron Paul campaign was the number of supporters who came from self described left oriented backgrounds. We had some people whose first choice was Ron Paul with a second choice of Dennis Kucinich. There were even some anarchist communists in the mix. It really felt like the 2008 campaign was a rallying point for all different sorts of people.

Although it would be hard to get everyone together, I would love to see that kind of energy at some point in my lifetime again.

I know, right? I used to have them all on a portable hard drive until the portable hard drive stopped working. I don't even know what to look for on YouTube because the supporter-made videos were technically not advertisements.. Ron Paul 2008 promotional video? Ron Paul fan video? Is there a thread on here from a long time ago that was used for gathering "conversion" persuasion material?

And does anyone have a link to that atrocious He's Catching On official campaign ad – the one that looked like it had the budget of a closeout commercial for a mattress outlet?

I remember a bunch of those types of videos were hosted on their own website, I think. Maybe ronpaulvideos.com or something.
I remember there were dozens of videos that weren't on youtube that were uploaded by people from events, speeches, and all kinds of supporter made ones.

I recorded this in the parking lot outside the Veteran's Memorial auditorium, Des Moines Iowa, June 30th 2007 (same month I joined this forum). Ron and Carol came out to speak to the supporters (about 50) along with Kent Synder.

If I remember correctly, I think Josh Lowry was at this. I don't know if anyone else was at this rally. It was very early, and this was the event where Paul wasn't invited so a "counter conference" was held in protest. When the program actually started, there was easily 200 people there supporting Ron, and the actual conference that included all the "invited" candidates, had less people (from what I witnessed).

I only regret not filming myself into the shot!

    Here's the parking lot video.

Here's a montage of the event itself.

Another one I wish I could find is this interview from 2008 where Ron Paul is at a coffee shop talking to a local reporter about his philosophy/career. It might've been in Jacksonville, Texas. If I can find it I will post it here because it was one of the better ones.

I think I'm poking around the old videos because I'm considering explaining what the 2008 campaign was like to somebody I know. It is hard to explain it and all the old Ron Paul news interviews, the better interviews from the smaller outlets like the Houston Texas interview at the restaurant and the WMUR interview are all gone. It's hard to think that these news stations don't archive their footage somewhere. Anyway, I found a 30-second clip of Ron Paul talking about New Hampshire. He says something like, "I don't know how they got my slogan on their license plates!"

Two awesome relatively recent Ron Paul Interviews

    https://www.c-span.org/video/?320388-1/depth-ron-paul

Once, somebody said to Ron Paul, "I like listening to you because you are so optimistic."

What he has to say about that is found in this interview somewhere between the timestamp where I'm starting the playback of this video at 27 minutes and when he says the word "teacher" at 36 minutes. It's always hard to know the least amount to excerpt, (in order to save time) but also to give adequate context:

    Link with timestamp: https://youtu.be/G8bFOvk_hpI?t=1646

For the first video, does anybody know how to download specific C-SPAN footage to a local hard drive? Thank you.

You can use a browser plug-in called Video DownloadHelper (VDH). It's available for Firefox and Chrome.

    Main website: http://www.downloadhelper.net/
    Firefox add-on webpage: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ownloadhelper/

It worked when I tested it under Firefox. Just install the add-on and go to the C-SPAN page.
The VDH icon in the browser toolbar will become colored.
Then select the 1024x576 HLS-streaming version from the drop-down menu.
This fetched a 918 MiB file, so you should make sure you've got about a gigabyte of space available.

You can pick a lower resolution (it looks like 640x360 and 416x234 are also available) for a smaller file size.
You can also configure VDH for download location and other settings.

    Before the Empire Struck Back...

That video brings back some great memories! There was so much hope back then!
"Then David said to the Philistine, 'You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of Yahweh of hosts, the God of the battle lines of Israel, Whom you have reproached.'" - 1 Samuel 17:45

"May future generations look back on our work and say that these were men and women who, in moment of great crisis, stood up to their politicians, the opinion-makers, and the Establishment, and saved their country." - Dr. Ron Paul

Thanks to Ron Paul starting a movement millions upon millions more are awake today and realize that Freedom is in serious trouble in the USA. We were a tireless minority when he started, no one even knew who he was before the grassroots. Today ask anyone and they likely have at least heard the name before. I still have Ron Paul signs stored away, maybe collectibles someday?
