On Sunday morning 1 November, I sat a whole hour close enough to the entrance of the coronavirus testing centre at Plein ‘40-‘45 in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) to see nobody entering.
I don’t see any problem with testing centres being closed during the weekend, but is sort of odd that the entrance was open to suggest that tests were being performed there.
The testing centre only performs tests after making an appointment.
I don’t see much of a problem with that, as in this way they could spread the people coming in for testing over the day.
This morning I again sat close to the testing centre for an hour, I’m not saying that it’s impossible that I missed somebody entering quickly…
As I sat there from 9:40 to 10:00 not a single person came in.
Then from 10:00 to 10:05 suddenly 10 people entered. If they would want to give the impression that the centre is overwhelmed with people coming in for testing, they could get the people to all come in at the same time…
From 10:00 to 10:40 another 8 people came in.
If 18 people get tested in 1 hour, this means that some 720 would be tested in a week.
As there are 6 of these testing centres in Amsterdam, this would amount to 4320 tests a week.
According to the state media a whopping 300,000 COVID-19 tests are performed every week (out of a population of 17.3 million). Of course these tests are called “free of charge”, so it’s the taxpayer that funds this.
According to the official number Amsterdam has a population of (more than) 821,752.
If a proportionate amount of people in Amsterdam (compared to the rest of the country) would be tested that would require 14,250 tests per week (more than 3 times 4320).
