the FED to give things a most needful uptick. AL SMITH in both 1928 + 1931 was
optimistic about the economy. Admittedly things aren't as bad as the early 1930s
but JOE BIDEN has a very similar optimism. FDR by comparison looked optimistic
but had his quiet doubts about things. Had felt he had no idea what he was doing...

I wonder if All Smith was as fond of amphetamines as another well-known Catholic candidate for president. He certainly shared the speed freak's disdain for ending one sentence and starting another one.
Whether he lost because he was a Catholic or a gasbag, it's a shame he didn't beat Hoover. If a Democrat had been "at the helm" in 1929, FDR might never have become president, and the depression might have been over by 1935.
I sometimes wonder if MITT ROMNEY from the get-go lost 3% of the vote in 2012 because he was a very devote MORMON! Yes... admittedly Gentleman Mitt was less of a gasbag and yes, the public schools graduated students who were more literate than their parents and grandparents quite often! But yes....

The gaffe occurred in El Paso, Texas, on Sunday, during a visit to the Mexican border ahead of this week's 'Three Amigos' summit between the US, Canadian and Mexican leaders.
After speaking to Border Patrol officers and taking a walk along the wall separating the two countries the President was led to a migrants center and was introduced to a member of the Salvation Army wearing a uniform.
Biden stepped towards the aid worker - who was also wearing a Salvation Army badge, name tag and standing in front of a Salvation Army banner - shook his hand and whispered: 'I spent some time with the Secret Service in Poland and Ukraine.
The man, clearly puzzled, smiled back at the President as the pair continued to shake hands, before Biden continued on down the line, leaving the aid worker none the wiser.
