Either Rand has turned deep state, he was not as astute with his knowledge of the Constitution as I thought, or he truly thinks Barrett will be a great Justice.

Remains to be seen. If she gets confirmed, we will find out over time. If she is another Roberts, then we can write strongly worded letters of disapproval.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court:

What a brave, wonderful Supreme Court pick by President Trump! President Trump has once again stood up for the U.S. Constitution with his nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. Judge Barrett has a demonstrated record of applying the rule of law rather than legislating from the bench. Her record shows that she will not only respect but apply the U.S. Constitution as written and intended by our Founding Fathers. And it would be a wonderful milestone that Judge Barrett would be the first conservative woman member on the Supreme Court. She seems to be a full spectrum conservative who is likely to be a force on the Supreme Court for years to come.

This nomination is another great victory for constitutional government and a blow to politicized decision-making on the Supreme Court. Most Americans agree with Judge Barrett that the Supreme Court should apply the law as it is written and leave the legislating to the people’s elected representatives.

The U.S. Senate should move quickly to work with President Trump to consider and approve Judge Barrett before Election Day. There is not much radical liberals can do to stop this excellent Supreme Court pick. Leftist threats of violence and court-packing should not slow the Senate one bit. And all Americans should reject the growing un-American campaign by the radical left to attack her family and oppose Justice Barrett because of her religious faith.

Judge Barrett cannot be confirmed soon enough.

The nominee appears to be pro-family and pro-faith, may be pro-life (being Catholic in certainly no guarantee) and a follower of the Pope. Not being anti-liberty doesn't necessarily mean being pro-liberty. By definition, a devout Constitutionalists is liberty agnostic because of the acceptance that there are some limitations on personal liberty.

After William Rainsberger was arrested for murdering his 88-year-old mother, he spent two months in jail before he was released on bail. A year later, prosecutors dropped the case, citing a lack of evidence. That decision was not surprising, because Rainsberger's arrest was based on a probable cause affidavit written by an Indianapolis detective who misrepresented crucial facts and omitted exculpatory information.

The detective, Charles Benner, nevertheless argued that Rainsberger could not sue him under 42 USC 1983, a federal statute that allows people to seek damages when government officials violate their constitutional rights. In a 2019 opinion, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit demolished Benner's argument that he was protected by qualified immunity, a court-invented doctrine that limits such claims to cases in which officials are accused of violating "clearly established" law.

That opinion is of special interest to critics of qualified immunity—which in many cases has protected police officers from liability for shocking behavior—because it was written by 7th Circuit Judge Amy Coney Barrett, who is reportedly the leading contender to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court. In addition to supporting legislation that would limit or abolish qualified immunity, its critics hope the Supreme Court will reconsider the doctrine in an appropriate case. While the 7th Circuit's decision in Rainsberger v. Benner does not reveal how Barrett would vote in such a case, it does suggest she is not the sort of judge who bends over backward to protect police officers accused of outrageous misconduct.

As this statement from Iraqi freedom/women's rights champ Joe Lierberman had predicted years ago, Trump and his picks cannot be 'antifemale'.
    Supporting Donald Trump
Lieberman speculated on a Trump presidency as far back as 1999. “The Donald is quite a ladies’ man,” Lieberman said at a Washington event, as Newsweek reported. “He’s going to have, if elected, an all-female cabinet…. Secretary of Energy Carmen Electra, Secretary of Defense Xena the Warrior Princess.”
His praise of Trump became more serious in more recent years. Lieberman said he agreed with Trump’s decision to move the American embassy in Israel, and of Trump’s policies on Iran.
Lieberman was reportedly being considered for U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
Incidentally, Lieberman also defended ACB nomination.
