Thread: Will Trump nominate yet another swamp creature to SCOTUS?

  1. #1

Question Will Trump nominate yet another swamp creature to SCOTUS?

Gorsuch was good on paper (although turned out not that great), but Kavanaugh was a deep state neocon swamp creature from the start.

Will Trump actually nominate a pro-Constitution nominee to the Supreme Court this time?

Considering this is Ginsburg we're talking about, this is definitely an opportunity that shouldn't be squandered.

Amy Coney Barrett was one of the top choices last time so I assume she's still in the running or first choice this time.

Gorsuch has been very good with only a few exceptions and Kavanaugh was a big improvement over Kennedy. (who wouldn't have retired if he didn't get a say in his replacement)

Ginsburg was so horrible that Trump would be hard pressed to find anyone who isn't a massive improvement but he will make a very good pick even without contrasting with Darth Bader.

And Trump will get several more SCOTUS picks in his second term, sane liberty lovers will be singing the praises of the Trump SCOTUS for a generation.

Hopefully he nominates someone pro-choice. Would be good politics to get someone confirmed. Good for the party to get away from the theocratic influence.

Yeah probably. The fate of the nomination might rest on that issue. Gorsuch is fantastic - Kavanaugh not so much.

James Ho is my hopeful pick.
Amy had some bad rulings(escapes my mind)but was good on the abortion issue. She is catholic.

'Swamp creature' is a loaded word, better to use less controversial terms like CINO/RINO.

Never say never with Trump but it probably is not going to be quick appointment. Currently alienated GOP conservative/evangelical base would want someone clearly pro-life, pro-DOMA/anti gay marriage and Trump leaning liberal progressive wing of GOP in power these days likely won't accept anyone who is not pro LGBTQ rights, pro DACA or anyone too opposed to gun controls. While Dems are pretty united on liberal progressive values, GOP is divided currently on what are "Republican values".. sort of going through rebrithing pains lately.
Considering what happened with his last CFR/other picks, getting a CINO (conservative in name only)/RINO to slip through few weeks before elections won't be easy.

I mean it's not like it will hurt the impression the left has of him. Besides, it would also certainly focus the election on the nominee rather than race and BLM.

Syria military intervention championing stealth neocon and ZOA rising star Rafael Cruz was apparently on SCOTUS shortlist now.

Merely "getting someone better than RGB" is not the threshold for quality here.... the threshold and metric should be "how in line are they with the Constitution?"

Yeah, right. Like there is anyone he could nominate that would actually lead the Orange man to winning the election. There are no votes to pick up with a nomination. True chartreuse constitutionalists aren't going to change their mail-in ballot from Jorgensen or Blankenship for orangie porngie.

Kavanaugh has been reliably conservative. Much more so than I ever thought.

Gorsuch has been there for almost four years and with a handful of exceptions has also been reliable conservative.

I'm not sure what your problem with them is.

Long gone are the days of Ron Paul types on the courts.

If somebody can give me a list that summarizes all the good rulings Amy Coney Barrett has made, it would be greatly appreciated.

What occurred to me right away was that they could delay Ginsberg's actual burial for weeks, to prevent Trump from naming a nominee. He could derail that by appointing someone now.

I wrote that when I thought he would wait until after election and not have to worry about voters. I see the news he is going to something soon. Even though a pro-choice nominee would be smartest, hard to see him nominating one now.

Why would a delayed burial hold up a nomination? Is that even legal? I mean, is there a law that says no Supreme Court Justice shall be nominated until a burial takes upon the death of a justice while in office?

It's not a law, just a courtesy. Many Democrats have already brought it up.

This won't change their impression of Trump or the GOP (they fall for it all the time) wish the GOP would stop placating the left. It won't make them like him any more. Go for broke, especially if your looking at a potential loss on 11/2.
